Laurence--Trials
Found the other week my rear brake was really slow to return to the magura pod Found the other week the piston(s) in my rear brake were really slow to return to the magura pod. So i gave everything a clean de-grease, little screw driver to get all the crap out muc-off was used too then last but not least GT85 to lube the piston up. but it still sticks and i dont know why. Its been bled with water for about 6 months then because of the pistons i thought bleeding with oil would help (which it didn't) any ideas to why this could be happening? trials owns
Id give it a once over with some silicone grease on the pistons, If not u could try the old trick of holding one piston in and pumping the leaver then redoing the same for the other piston
Laurence--Trials
tried silicone grease before, it just gets all the gunk stuck to it. Tried doing that too
Laurence--Trials
does the piston need machining down due to being bled with water?
p_ruskin
Its a bitch to do really, i find its not worth the hassle of fixing them once they go sticky, they will never work as well, just see if you can find another piston or buy a new one
AndrewEH1
NOTE: I've never had to do this myself, but I have seen that others have given their pistons a bit of a rub down with sand paper. Seems to work.

Chris Borneo
Why the f**k do people use water in Maguras and then wonder why it f**ks them up? They're designed to be run with mineral oil. It's cheap as chips from your local sewing machine repair shop. I don't get it. What's the crack. dann2707
The piston swells when contacted with water after time. Like this - So it rubs in the bore of the magura body. It should be way straighter and now bowed round. So you have to remove a tiny bit so that it stops it. That's why im using oil again now, the slower release time really doesn't bother me and at least I know it should work for a while... Yeah man, I was in my local sewing machine repair shop just the other day and... Water in a Magura is fine. If you get a little piston swell after years of it then 2 minutes with some wet and dry sorts out out and you're good to go again.

SamKidney
I didn't say bleed it with sand........ Would offer a 'rock' solid lever feel waters all good in maguras. I ran an 04 that had been bled with water from new (rebled over time ofc) and it felt perfect right up until the lever snapped. Same can be said for 05's. Again ran them with water. Im on the same set of slave cylinders i ran on the 04 too. Feels brilliant. Also used a brake bled with Phatworks Phluid. Felt amazing (any brake that feels like a water bleed will ) and if its all its cracked up to be then it sounds a winner. Andeee
Just a quickie? Why would you wanna bleed your brake with water? Surely it is daft as water does expand which can affect the performance of your brake i.e. slow pistons n lever pull.. Where as mineral oil does not. It's cheap as chips from your local sewing machine repair shop. I don't get it. What's the crack. I agree that people shouldn't wonder why the brake might stop working after a while. I recommend people thinking about it before water bleeding, but there are so many plus points of water bleeds over oil bleeds I'd encourage people not to be put off by it. Just a quickie? Why would you wanna bleed your brake with water? Surely it is daft as water does expand which can affect the performance of your brake i.e. slow pistons n lever pull.. Where as mineral oil does not. Water is thinner than oil, so it offers a more responsive lever feel. Water's free. Water is readily available. Expanding on those last two points, this means it's not a waste of money to fill a bath with water to bleed your brake. It also means you can bleed it in a fountain if need be.

SamKidney
All the points revolver made. Also massively reduces arm pump for me anyway. After using water for so long, the difference in feel is really noticable. The closest to oil I'll get is in the form of phluid, and thats water based. pogo
Going back to water vs oil, i'm another that has ran water in an 04 lever and it hasn't let me down once, a quick re-bleed once in a while and it's fine, adding antifreeze seems to free up the pistons a little bit if you're having issues.
