Ashton justice 26. .......c'mon have a bit of faith. What frame and how do you want to ride it? natural (rocks) more compy (pallets, rocks, pipes ect) or streety? Mostly rocks and a bit of street. No comps. Trying to decide between single speed or several gears.

choppercooney
Not sure but I'm thinking hope pro 2 ? I basically don't know what I need to get a functioning bike. Next challenge will be putting it together.
Skoze
hope pro2 trial rear, any disc hub up front (again, pro2 is a good choice) maguras/ vees with decent pads (unless you find a cheap hope/ bb7 to go up front), echo forks like urbans or something, trialtech forged cranks, any mid-range rims you fancy, maxxis high rollers/ minions, standard cheap headset, trialtech stem in a geometry of your fancy, and pay out for some trialtech high rise bars - they feel so damn good to ride with it's a good investment Edited February 5, 2012 by Skoze
choppercooney
Is there any merit in going disc front and rear as opposed to mags at the back ?
choppercooney
Also what ratios should i run ?
onza pro series guy
discs allow more modulation rather than a rim brake but its mainly down to personal preferance, I tend to bend rotors all the time so I have been running a disc on the front and a HS33 on my street rig; which I would recomend to anyone. Something like 22-18 maybe? I don't know to be honest, I haven't had a propper stock in two years! :$ Don't know if you can view it yet but just found this thread: Edited February 5, 2012 by onza pro series guy
Skoze
Stock, 18:15 or whatever the equivalent is with different sized front sprockets. I'd personally recommend a front disc if you can, just makes it a whole lot nicer and more manageable to ride, gives you modulation and straight up on/off power whenever you need it, whereas rim brakes are usually very on/off (vees aren't as bad as HS33s but it all depends on your set up) Rear disc is hit and miss, i'd not go for it with a 26" bike, get so much more power from a rim brake when it comes to big wheels! Ross McArthur
Thought i'd slip this in what's the best ratio for a 24? Same as stock? 22:16 Listen to Skoze, he seems to know what hes talking about (most of the time ) What Ashton Justice is it you have? Silver one, red/black one or red/white one? I ask because I would be able to recommend a rim more easily if I knew which model it was. The earlier Mk1/2 Ashton frames will only be able to take MTB style thinner rims like Mavic D521/721s (and possibly newer rims like Inspired CNC) because of the width of the brake spacing on the frame being around 80-90mm. If you have the red/back Mk3 model, a rear trials rim (with holes in) will just fit a magura rim brake set up. I used to have to run worn pads for everything to fit. When looking for a Bottom Bracket, try and buy a 128mm length. This will allow your cranks to clear most front free wheel set ups and for the cranks to clear your magura slaves. You may also want to buy a brake booster. This may (but not always) improve your brake performance. A brake booster is a plate that fits onto your brake mounts and Ashton frame to reduce flex and increase stiffness.* *This is not always a good thing for some peoples brake set up and preferences. If you decide to go for a single speed set up, make sure and buy a sprung tensioner. This will keep the chain constantly in tension. Any other "bolt up tight" set ups come loose and make the chain slack eventually.* *You don’t want this. When it comes to inner tubes, try and find a Tesco or Asda that sells them. If you run a Maxxis or Conti tire, there’s usually no need to run a heavy Down Hill tube as the side walls are generally up to the task of preventing snake bite punctures. You'll be able to save some cash buying from Tesco or Asda too! Talking about cheap. It’s always a good idea to see what deals you can pick up on here in the For Sale forum before you go and buy brand new.
choppercooney
Its the red/white one. Not sure myself what year that is ? I was heading in the direction of echo tr rims ?
Ross McArthur
Those rims should be fine. Just check with someone who has the frame that a 47mm wide rims fit ok with new Magura pads. Sometimes the spacing might not be great enough to fit metal backing pads with new material.
