Carlperkins Posted January 30, 2012 Report Share Posted January 30, 2012 ok so i saw these on a guys bike in bike pictures http://www.aliexpress.com/fm-store/807490/211178101-498089662/ZHI-7075-CNC-cranks.html i have a pair of echo CNC cranks which look pretty much the same but without the holes. i'm pretty handy with a drill and file etc.. do you think its possible and even safe to do it to my echo cranks? im not sure ill even do it because i don't really want to mess it up but has anyone ever tried it? Chris Borneo Posted January 30, 2012 Report Share Posted January 30, 2012 I guess the reality is that if you drill a load of holes in them, you're going to reduce the overall strength to some degree. Probably depend on your riding style how likely they are to break. Bit of flex shouldn't be a problem. I've got a set of Campagnolo cranks that have been flexing since 1969 and they're still in one piece but they are on a road bike. Don't suppose they'd last long on my trials bike the way I ride it. davey1991 Posted January 31, 2012 Report Share Posted January 31, 2012 The strength in that style crank is in the flared edges, as long as yours have this you can do this to a certain extent, it will shorten the life of the cranks but how much depends on what you drill, how much and how you ride.
