Buying Second Hand

Probably half of the bits I've bought from here and pinkbike in the last year have turned up in an unusable state, bent rotors, bent lever blades and stripped threads most recently. The person on here who sold me the bent lever described it only as scratched, it turned up with the blade bent which I wouldn't have bought had I known. His attitude was pretty unhelpful throughout but he did offer a refund but I turned it down as I'll just bend it back. More hassle than worth. When I left negative feedback he left the same for me even though I asked for more photos and he refused, he didn't get that I left it as it was an inaccurate description and left me bad feedback for having to high expectations damaging my rep as a trader on here!!!? Furthermore he took a week to post, I paid straight away? How was I a bad buyer?

Is it to much to expect stuff to turn up as described? If it doesn't say bent/stripped/rounded surely it's fair to assume its not? Second hand is a mine field I know but I'm very thorough in my descriptions and never had anything sent back

Just wondering if I bought from assholes or expecting to much?

Cheers

Not at all mate, there are a lot of bad sellers/ buyers/ kids with no real idea on here and pink bike. If a part is described as good, or just scratched etc i'd be raged if it turned up worse off than that. Honest descriptions and plenty of photos are the only way to go! Just choose who you trade with more carefully, i'll only ever buy from people who are "known" on the forum and are generally sound, or people I know personally.

Eh. So he offered you a refund in good will (maybe being a bit pissy about it), you turned it down and gave him negative feedback?

As far as im concerned that's a bit shitty on your behalf. You weren't being a bad buyer as such, but he gave you that option and you turned it down.

I would have been annoyed though, if the part I bought was damaged. That's why I try my best to be as honest as I can when selling something - it's not like someones not going to notice ha.

The last thing i bought off here i was un happy with, was a bottom bracket that was 5mm shorter than he said it was. Genuine mistake, and it happens. Other than that, and a set of bars a few years ago that never turned up (which i did eventually get a refund for..) I've been happy with everything I've bought of here.

You can normally tell who you should and shouldn't buy from, based on there feedback and posts on here.

Was the lever bent when it was sent, or is there a chance it happened in the post?

Edit: This is from the topic..

So the XTR lever you want is number 2 (and it's the £5 one) because that's all that is available. And as you can see from the image it looks a lot worse condition than the picture you've just posted. I don't need to tell you that really, it's clear to see.

It's packed and ready to send but because you don't seem to know what you are buying I'm not going to send it out yet because the last thing I want is for you to receive it and moan about the condition. Look at the picture and know exactly what you're getting. Pm me, if you want your money back, tell me asap so I can stick it back up for sale.

Might seem shitty but after it being posted a week late, turning up not as described, then being accused of bending it & being refused extra pics, i presume because it was bent, that to me, regardless of the refund offer, is a bad seller and it's your duty to other members to rate accordingly. I wont buy from anyone with negative feedback. People don't seem to do feedback. I always have to chase for mine as seller! Only reason i kept it is because keeping meant i had a pair of levers and it was cheap. It was the principle. It cost me less than a Tenner but what's to say that also wouldn't happen to someone spending ten times that? I can't see that it was damaged in the post, packaging was pristine and no damage or crushing to the lever body and no way it could be bent where it comes out the body without a hge amount of force/weight

The only picture was an above picture, how do i see a bent blade from that? I had also sent the money then it occured to me to ask if it was the same model and posted a picture so he could confirm if it was the same version/mk xtr lever as the one i already had. I couldn't get the image to enlarge so asked if he could confirm it was the same. I hadn't a problem with.aesthetic damage but if i had known it was bent i wouldn't have bothered. Furthermore i confirmed that day i wanted it and had sent the money, it was posted a wek later. Read the rest of the thread, and you'll see no mention of bends and me asking questions he couldn't be bothered to really answer. Yes it was cheap for what it is, which is why i bought it, but it was sold as scratched, not scratched and bent. If someone sold you a koxx sky frame with a badly flared headtube and not mentioned it for 50 quid you'd be well happy until it turned and realised it was shagged?
