bikeperson45
Don't know how much help I'll get here but thought it was worth a go So basically, end of June I'm going to be going to America, possibly till November. I'm most likely going to having an operation in April, which the recovery time for is 6 months at least, so basically the whole trip I'm not allowed to do anything fun. Does anyone know what getting insurance would be since it's just after I've had an operation or done similar? I would be much obliged for any help here. JT!
First question is how're you legally going to stay that long in the USA? No health insurance is going to cover pre-existing conditions, and with most health insurance you'll have to pay for it first and then put in a claim later. Best bet is to go with no health insurance and if you need medical attention go to the emergency room where they can't legally not treat you. They'll send you a bill for about a million dollars. Forgot to mention I've got an American passport, dad's american so dual nationality. Doesn't sound good then, it's one of those things were I'm going to be paranoid about my arm for the whole time. More research needed then. Thanks
Joe_Elding
I went to thailand 2 months after having a major (6 hour reconstruction) on my elbow. I called loads of different insurance companies and told them EXACTLY what happened (make sure you dont miss anything out or it will definately come back to sting you) a lot of them would point blank not insure me but a few would. I ended up going with virgin and for the silver package with no excess it was £80 a month. I ended up running up a hospital bill of £30,000 due to a moped incident, and they covered everything, air ambulance from a remote island to the mainland hospital, 11 days in hospital + everything else. BEST 80 pounds ive ever spent without a doubt. Just call a few up, have all the details to hand and sort it out. you will end up paying through the ear but its more than worth it
