Rear mount fork + light grind + TNN Beleays. Amazing braking power.
Azarathal
Depends what cable disc? Friends of mine used to run bb7's and they've all been dangerously more powerful than anything else I've felt up front.
pengsmelly
Each have it's own good and bad. I started riding with a front disc, just because with a disc brake you do have a little more control modulation wise, either slowing your wheel down or stopping it completely, but I personally didn't think it was powerful enough. - I ran a hope mono trial However with a rim brake, either Vee or hs33, I found it loads better for bite and power, probably because I wanted it as good as my back brake - but it is difficult to modulate a rim brake, especially if you're running a grind and can be a pain riding down hill I personally find rim brakes better for me, but everyone is different so i suggest at least try maggie on the front and if you don't like it go back to disc.

RickyBrown
Both have their advantages Magura -More pad choice. -Lighter (new hs33 weighs just over 200g) with a full hose) -because the brake is mounted on the rim closer the the point you are trying to stop in theory its a better place. -you can bleed with water because the brake dosen't genarally get hot it won't boil the water thus thinner and more responcive feedback (will freeze in cold however). beware of sticky pistons because the oil acts as a lubracant for the system water is cheaper than oil and more brake friendly. -from my experiance it's a more powerful brake. Hydro disc -Works just aswell in wet conditions -more moderation (bettter for rolling moves) -from my experiance more froks available in disc (the last pair of froks i bought were disc and vee so I had to get rid of my magura). -no annoying squeeling -if set up right they are plenty powerful enough they have always made me a better rider eg: gap to front relying less on front brake and more on body weight and accuracy of landing. -if your wheel becomes untrue your brake is unaffected. -quite a range of hydro brakes around there is only 3 front hydro rim brakes I know off habd and one Ahemmmm (Echo) is nothing but trouble Feel free to add or argue with me people. RickyB EDIT: disc pads genarally last a hell of a lot longer Edited January 4, 2012 by RickyBrown

Greetings
Depends what cable disc? Friends of mine used to run bb7's and they've all been dangerously more powerful than anything else I've felt up front. That. You can't get more locking power than with a BB5/BB7 and a well set up SD7 lever. My choice for the past 3 years has been a rim brake. I like a lot of bite, makes the bike feel like a precision tool if that makes sense.

dave33
That. You can't get more locking power than with a BB5/BB7 and a well set up SD7 lever. My choice for the past 3 years has been a rim brake. I like a lot of bite, makes the bike feel like a precision tool if that makes sense. I would tend to agree with that, on paper disc has more power, forks last, pads last, don't have to worry about bent wheels etc but I still prefer a front magura
aener
Front rim brakes are the work of the devil. Front brakes, in my opinion in order of preference: Hope Tech/Shimano Saint (never tried, but they've an excellent reputation) > BB7 > Hope Trial > Echo TR > BB5 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SD7 > Other Vees > Magura. If your cable disk is a BB7, just read some tips on how to set it up. I had one for the majority of the time I had brakes and they really are good if you set them up right. If it's an old BB7, it might be worth considering new pads/rotor. Hope Tech's really are worth the money though.
