Christmas

Someone had to start a thread, this forum was very unchristmasy so here goes:

So what do you usually do on Christmas?

what are you doing this year?

What have you asked for?

do you have any unusual Christmas traditions, games etc?

What are you giving to people for Christmas?

Just because it's not a 'what are you going to get' one, I'll partake :)

I'm just about to start a hectic Christmas by leaving the flat to go spend it with Leanne's family. Never spent Christmas with another family before, especially one which isn't as dysfunctional as my own so I'm actually quite worried about fitting in! I like my own space, so I need to make sure I get that to stay sane!

Then boxing day evening we'll be off to my mums in Lincolnshire for a couple of nights - should see my sister there too if all goes to plan. Then Wednesday I'll go off to do it all again at my dads, this time sans Leanne because she still hates him for something which happened earlier in the year.

I'm gonna need a whole lot of drink, which is handy cos there'll be loads!

Thing better with Leanne now then, mate?

As for me, i'm spending christmas eve clearing out my garage/ garden all day ready for Bernard to come home pretty unexpectedly, then christmas will be spent at our family friends' as per usual. Good deal there, just turn up and get fed/ beer'd. All good! Kinda apprehensive on how things are gonna be this year, but we'll have to wait and see I guess. Feeling ok so far anyway!

Ahh, i'm doing something similar, i'm going to my girlfriends nannies for Christmas, not sure if i should look forward to it or not, like you never spent Christmas with another family other than my own, Bit nevus about it to be fair. Then on boxing day i'm going round my arnty's (spelling?) With my whole family about 25 of us, which is what we usually do on Christmas.. really looking forward to that.

I've asked for a 4th gen ipod touch, looking forward to that because ive never had any of my own cool little gadgets.. got a brick phone at the moment so thats something pretty high tech for me :)

Games and stuff, we usually have little quiz's all sit in the lounge huddled up together opening presents given to us by one of our dads dressed up as santa, thats the main Christmas tradition we have :)

Finally! A christmassy thread! Going to be entertaining this year, having a load of friends round for christmas dinner then a quiet eve with J. Boxing day were at his mom's. I didn't really ask for anything but a helmet and i have loads of prezzies, none of them resembling a helmet :P

Brought J star wars force wars for the wii with two lightsabres should be fun :)

And can't stop acting like a child today! Well exited.

And tomorrow morning it starts by my grandmother with 20+ people and ends in the evening with my birthday :D

It's always a slow chocolate eating family drunken day at mine. My mum always cooks a smashing dinner, but we seem to have special cutlery and plates that come out for this day that I have never seen before. I don't understand that, does anybody else?

It doesn't feel much like Christmas, especially seeing as I've been outside in my shorts and t shirt doing a few jobs outside and not felt uncomfortable. That's not right, it should be freezing!

Anyway, really looking forward to surprising all my mates with what I've bought them :) love giving presents :)

Got a good feeling about this christmas, my grandma lives next door (cool, eh?) so the whole family go there for Christmas day, then roll to my house for my birthday on boxing day. (All whilst drunken and stuffed with food)

This year we decided to make use of the 5 apple trees in the garden, and made some homemade cider which is just about ready to drink and pretty tasty! We made a homemade press and what not and ended up making about 88 pints I believe. :giggle:

That should ensure a good christmas!

I am at my parents (again), got here today, pretty bored already. My sister and her family (including cat) should be here soon so that will be fun. My brother isn't coming up this year. Not sure how long I'll stay here then I'll head off back to Blackpool.

I got my dad some smellies, my mum some whisky, sister a folk music album, my brother-in-law a sudoku calendar and my niece some paints and a big cardboard box.

I didn't ask for anything in particular for myself as there really isn't anything I wanted.

Who even celebrate christmas for the real reasons?

Probably not that many people, but what's wrong with that?

I'm not a christmas person either, bought my parents some presents which turned out to be useful but I really don't like getting presents myself. Christmas used to be all about having a lot of people over with my cousins' kids getting excited about presents, me and my cousins getting drunk and our parents generally enjoying themselves. That was a few years ago, now that my aunt and uncle are dead, my cousins no longer come over. So christmas eve is becoming fairly depressing.

I've discovered that as much as I love my family, I just don't seem to fit in.

My brother and sister both have PHDs, my sisters husband teaches history at Durham Uni, my parents both used to teach too. I never even got any GCSEs.

Just had a meal and as usual for any meal I have with my family, I didn't say a word throughout. They just talk about things that I either have no interest in (the latest wines they all like or something political) or I just don't understand. To make it worse they'll notice I can't add anything to the chat and try and talk bikes with me to try and get me involved....at least they are thinking of me I guess.

I think I'll be going back to Blackpool asap to be alone with my thoughts.

I was going to ask, do your parent's approve of your career choice, personally i think its a genius route and if your good at something why not. Well Ali if you make it back to blackpool 2moz the offer of getting pissed with us is there :) (probably less appealing than spending it with the rents but an offer none the less)

as fun as that sounds I don't drink. I can't stand the taste of alcohol.

My parents are very supportive of what I do and I know my brother and sister are pretty proud too, but I just don't feel I fit in intellectually.

You fit in here Ali!! We all love you :)
