bikeperson45
I'd assume everyone would be against this being passed, but I'm interested in opinions. If you don't know what it is, watch this video -
Greetings
I'm against it for one reason - it's the wrong way to do it. Example - if you want to stop people from stealing in supermarkets, you don't ban supermarkets, nor do you ban the public from entering them. You introduce security and raise people's awareness while retaining their freedom to do what they want. The guy in the video spoke about Valve's viewpoint - that to stop piracy, better service needs to be provided by retailers. That's so true from my point of view, many years ago I used to download illegal software (mostly games) but now I prefer to buy them from Steam purely because it's easy and I don't have to mess around with cracks, viruses, slow downloads and other inconveniences. JT!
I like what he said about how things like Spotify have helped put an end to piracy. I personally download extremely little pirated material because I can listen to music free and watch movies and tv shows on netflix. Back in the day I used to watch movies via torrents because there was no other means to do it online. Piracy has always been ahead of the times. Companies need to get their shit together and keep up with the times.
eskimo
21mins, cba. I don't download, stream etc. I like to have feeling to my purchases, having a dvd and cd collection is sweet. Also highly quality if you're that way inclined. Besides people going on about how much they love such and such, perhaps you should support them? anzo
But what about the amount of shit that they seem to make these days? I will probably download/stream a tv series or film, if its shit I leave it, if its good I'll go out and buy it because I like to 'own' it. Another downside of purchasing it the cost of it - obviously they need to make money but the mark up is pretty ridiculous - for example the Family Guy box set in HMV is about £150....One hundred and fifty quid for a couple of DVDs, for something that is on BBC3 every day, for something that you can stream online for f**k all and then they wonder why people download material!
