MadManMike
Forums are exactly that, a forum. So as long as I stick within the rules I can say what I want, I am not aiming anything I say at any single user on this forum. But some how you guys can turn it round and make it personal, I don't care because you are just names on a screen to me now. Don't be that guy. I get on with you dude, but shit like that is annoying. It's not "just a forum", it's an extension of who you are - if you act like a dick on here people will think you're a dick in real life. Luke Rainbird
Random fact of the day; One of the chicks in the Wives Choir was on my course at uni/worked with me for a while - fortunately one of the younger, more attractive ones rather than an old dear though

bing
its all the older members who dont give a f**k about riding trials... Cheeky young tosser. i`m old and i love riding and give a f**k about trials, and nirvana were and still are one of my my alltime favourite bands, grew up with em like. I would rather have these at no.1 for christmas than any of that manufactured shite, and i don`t give a F**K if anyone calls me an emo or a goth or a crusty or just a wanker. They can all F**K off. I know good music, and bet i have considerably more epic music from the last 40 years in my collection than any of the chavs that claim to like and know good music. rant over. now f**K off and listen to someone decent, like the clash or pink floyd, or indeed nirvana. you will be suprised

Miss-Higgy
Shhh, don't tell him. He's making up what he's saying as he goes along. I don't think he has realised that Grohl playing in QOTSA did a lot more for QOTSA than it did for Grohl. It's not like the dude does stuff for free to help out new bands. "Hey you guys need a drummer? I've got my own band, but yeah sure I'll not only drum for you, I'll put my well known name and face to your band as well giving you instant credibility and popularity." Tenacious D. Eagles of Death Metal. Need I go on? Basically, your chatting shit, right now you need a bib or your going to ruin your clothes. Nirvana changed music whether you like them or not, you don't have a clue what Rage stood for, and Grohl recently released an album that was done completely on analogue with no editing, plus the garage tour. Ps. This is off my phone, so its not as in depth as I'd like. Pps. I don't want Nirvana to be Christmas number one. I've had enough of all these fad faggots listening to my music. I hate all the people who claim to like Rage yet called me a goth for listening to them. f**k off and stop ruining my music. Amen. Personally i don't care what gets christmas number one lets hope it actually has something to do with christmas. And hopefully I wont have to listen to it as i have my own playlist's that in my opinion are way better than any corporate/commercial market can throw at me. Well done rage, nirvana is a great, but leave it alone already peep's. I vote this; Edited December 20, 2011 by ch@v3tt3
RobinJI
...in my opinion are way better than any corporate/commercial market can throw at me.... You realise it's pretty closed minded to dislike music just because it's 'commercial' yeah? There is good commercial out there, sometimes stuff gets popular just because it's genuinely good. Although I agree with everything else you said . I agree with anzo on this one, I'd much rather people spent their money on something where it goes to a good cause than strait to a big labels pockets, and it still stops the X-factor crap getting number 1, or at least make it one of the few half decent christmas songs. All these metal covers are funny, but most of them are actually pretty crap songs just done for the novelty, which isn't much better than the crap pop music that also just plays on the novelty

I have early Syd Barrett albums as well as David Gilmores solo albums. They are by far my favorite band of all time, when my dad was recovering from a stroke for three years I used to spend every evening playing Pink Floyd to him. I've been listening to The Clash since I was old enough to understand the words (thanks dad!), however if that mainstream commercial bollocks is your thing then fair play. Personally I stopped listening to them when I discovered bands like the Talking Heads and The Damned for that sort of genre. If you genuinely want some suggestions and a proper chat about the 60's to 80's progression of that genre then drop me a PM, because I have a huge catalogue of albums most of which I've got saved on my laptop from a vinyl converter which I'll happily compress and send you. Many of which are non commercial or unreleased, but still by the big names. I like good* music, I don't like the monotone shite that is Nirvana. I used to when I was young, then I discovered better* music. I'm not blindly talking bullshit, this is coming from somebody who has studied percussion and music production at the ACM (Academy Of Contemporary Music) for over 18 months, played alongside Enter Shikari in battle of the bands as well as countless live gigs and playing at weekly jam sessions at various venues, has been an avid drummer for the past 10 years and likes everything from baroque classics to deathcore, from dubstep to blues. So put your personal judgment stick back in it's box because it is not necessary. You can say that whatever you wrote isn't meant at me, but seeing as this thread has turned into a "look at how much of a dick he is" it clearly is. People saying I clearly don't know what RATM stood for and am talking shit, you've misunderstood my point and are capitalizing on a poorly written post. I am MORE than aware of who RATM wanted to be, the social image they purveyed and the things they stood for as a band. You forget I was alive kicking when RATM were coming into their stride, and although it didn't mean anything to me at the time I was more than aware of their music and who they were. The point I am making is that RATM didn't give a f**k about the media's perception of them because they were writing and performing for a cause which they (and millions of fans) believed in. Regardless of negativity, press and prosecutions they rarely let their side down and stood true to their beliefs from start to finish. Which is proven by them screaming "f**k you I won't do what you tell me" over and over again on a live broadcast on 5 Live which was probably their biggest chance to get back into the UK for years. RATM as a band were not very good, in terms of ability and talent technically speaking they were poor musicians. Where they made a name for themselves was in their political views and activism, the music was a byproduct and without the content and stigma attached to RATM I'm sure they wouldn't have been anywhere near the success they were. However, for in 2009 the christmas number one to be a tune written years back as a more accessible means of social activism, I think that's a great message. Nirvana couldn't and wouldn't have done that, apart from pushing alternative music forwards and some crazy tour antics what have Nirvana got to shout about. As far as I'm aware, not much. But I'd love to be proved wrong! Their image was only that old people wouldn't like their music, and that many people hadn't heard that sort of music before. They were just the social and commercial kickstart to a type of person and music which had existed for years. Nothing revolutionary like RATM, not many bands have made the political stand they have either before or after their time. Their lack of care for the majority opinion on them and the media's representation was what I am saying they didn't give a f**k about, as said they were just using their music as a vehicle for a slightly more acceptable and accessible social activism. As long as the appropriate people got the message they didn't care about whoever elses ears it fell on. My point on Dave Grohl is ill-founded in your eyes, probably not appropriate and a difficult one to explain. Personally I CANNOT stand the guy, for all the reasons I have said. He is a talented song writer, and probably an all round good guy. Otherwise I've found him to be the weak link in every single band he's been in other than Foo Fighters who were very good and incredibly versatile. I've just always found him a bit wet and generally not as good as the hype, he is a brilliant songwriter and I wish he would stick to that. I am clearly educated on the subject, there are clearly truths in my opinions and I clearly understand a LOT more about music than you guys are suggesting. So back down, jog on and leave it. Because it'll only lead to tears and everybody will wish they never said a word. (trust me, I'm already at that point.) Also, lol I am a TOTAL chav. *denoted personal opinion Edited December 20, 2011 by Pashley26

Muel
Why do I imagine Jardo's last post being read in a rather toffish, "Owe bro, I hapen to be in burma on my gap year" voice? Great, you've listened to some music. That doesn't make your opinion any more valid than anyone else. There's nothing wrong with Nirvana, you just don't like them. They were a band, who wrote some music, took some drugs, shagged some rather gammy bints and acted like bellends, just like every other band who've ever existed. I am clearly educated on the subject, there are clearly truths in my opinions and I clearly understand a LOT more about music than you guys are suggesting. So back down, jog on and leave it. Because it'll only lead to tears and everybody will wish they never said a word. (trust me, I'm already at that point.) Put simply, f**k you. You're not a music boffin, or some kind of messiah, you're a lad who's listened to a lot of music and knows how to play the drums, that doesn't make you an expert. I listen to music for 8 hours a day, and listen to everything from 80s electro to death metal, but I'd never be so up my own arse as to keep blaring out my opinions and assuming I know more than other people. My girlfriend hates Dubstep with a passion, I love it. I bet in that situation you'd bully her into submission because you know better? I just put my headphones in because I'm not a f**king moron. Pashley26
You would class Tom Morello as "poor" in terms of ability and talent? That's a big claim! There's loads better out there, there are kids busking on the street that would wipe the floor with a huge amount of big name musicians. Listen to them live, then google any generic talent young kid. Don't get me wrong, he's f**k loads better than I'll ever be and I'm far from saying they are shit. But comparatively speaking, they're social standing and the message they were (and still are by all accounts) broadcasting far outshadowed their musical talent. Also, lol Sam way to take what I've said and push its proportion boundaries into a different continent. I'm only stating that I'm not as ignorant on the subject as you guys were making out and that based on that let's all just back down and move on. I don't like being belittled as much as you guys don't like my opinion on music. I'd never go to Burma on a gap year either, apparently steak is more expensive than gold in Burma. And I couldn't live without steak.

They were shocking back then as well, it was Reigate battle of the bands 2004 and they were still playing as Hybrid I think it was one of their first times playing as Shikari in public. I was expecting something more fiery from you Jase, no piss taking, no ribbing, no massive smackdown of a reality check. You feeling ok? To set the record straight, I'm not saying my opinion is any more valuable than anybody elses. But I'm saying my opinion is informed, so shouldn't be dismissed as bullshit.
