brammo
I am better at doing things one way. For example sidehops are easier to the right pivoting on my front wheel is easier in one direction etc. I was just wondering if everyone else is the same? N.Wood
Yep... If you can learn to sidehop away from your leading foot, it will generally (there are exceptions but generally) be better for the future.
brammo
My leading foot is the right foot and I sidehop to the right. So I am doing it the wrong way.
skunky_bifta
There's no right way or wrong way, personnal preference my dear friend. Myself i can turn on the back wheel to right no problem, to the left is a complete bum!
monkeyseemonkeydo
My leading foot is the right foot and I sidehop to the right. So I am doing it the wrong way. The only potential problem is that you could catch your leading foot on sidehops because it will be closer to the wall/ledge/whatever than it would be if you went to the left. If you can learn to go both ways then it will only help you in the long run.
brammo
I seem to do everything to my leading foot though. Like Front pivots my rear wheel comes round to the right aswell. Edited November 25, 2011 by brammo

If you watch any of the top guys (Neil Tunnicliffe excluded) they all go to the rear foot side. Just makes stuff easier, and if you're still learning, now is the time to change it rather than when you have it diallled then find you can only go a certain height. Its best to know how to go both ways, so try the other way and see how it feels.
brammo
Feels absolutely terrible but I will give it some hammer tonight and see how I go. Cheers for the help guys.I have watched a few videos on trashzen and I seem to have the front pivot right its just the side hop I need to sort out. isitafox
It's a bit weird really as I've always naturally felt comfortable sidehopping to my right though I'm left foot forward. Just feels wrong doing it the other way!

Cool, pivots and stuff it doesn't make any difference really, like Dave said its just you catch your leading pedal on sidehops and once you get to a certain height 'tucking' is a bit odd. Danny00135
I use my right foot forward and prefer to hop to my right, i've tried hopping to my left but it feels unnatural, do whatever's more comfortable

dannytrialskid
When I first started I could only ever spin one way. Now I can do it both ways perfectly fine. When I done a side hop I use to side hop to the left, even though I'm left footed. Which yes, meant that my pedal hit the wall on the way up sometimes. However I could side hop high anyway, and I when I went Dual Disc I practiced side hopping to the right. Shockingly, I could do it straight away, and after 2 weeks of hardcore side hopping practice I can now side hop even higher and much easier than what I could to the left. This has also helped me being able to sidehop both ways. I am the only one of my mates that can sidehop both ways to a decent height, which is good for me When we set out sections on the rocks, with the odd sidehop or pick I can do both ways, which is to an advantage. It is better to learn both ways, sometimes you can see the pros do stuff one way, then another time the other way, although most the time they just spin around and do it the way that they can do it best. IMO, learn it both ways if you can be bothered to - Helped me alot, specially in comps.
Tony Harrison
Learn both ways, it'll make you a better rider.
