Spinning Classes

I've been doing Krav but the same will apply to any other discipline - boxing, kickboxing, wing chun, karate etc. The benefits of this depend on the instructor, ours is very good which has been confirmed by many people who transferred from a different academy. A good instructor will not only teach you the techniques but also make sure his group gets stronger and improves their stamina. There's major emphasis on that during every class and it really pays off after a few months. I've now got muscles I didn't have last year and after attending a beginners class a few months ago, I barely broke sweat whereas the other guys hardly found the strength to keep their guard. I was in the same spot as them when I started in 2010, it was so satisfying to see how much my body had improved throughout the course of the year. My riding also improved, could ride for longer - 6-9 hours a day every day on natural spots in the mountains compared to 3-4h every 2 days in the past years.

It's more belly fat I want to lose rather than all over and thought it was quite an intensive workout that would do this quickly and I wouldn't be in the wet and cold..... This would mess my hair up

You can't just lose belly fat, no targeting. But if you want to lose weight then a spinning class will certainly burn off the calories, so go do it.
