Revolver
You know, you can use water in a magura brake. Check my sig, there's a video how-to.
dann2707
Just be careful with water in your brake over winter. Kind of hinders when you can ride due to your brake freezing up.
bike_dummie
or you can add anti-freeze to the mix.
Jake.
If your hydraulic brakes freeze... Will that f**k the brakes up? If it does then I'm going to empty my hoses. Edited November 20, 2011 by OnzaKid
dann2707
Nope, frozen brakes make them work even better (!) Just kidding, yeah it probably won't do it any good.
Revolver
If your hydraulic brakes freeze... Will that f**k the brakes up? If it does then I'm going to empty my hoses. Or, put antifreeze in.
Jake.
I mean, even if I didn't ride all winter- and just left it in the garage 'til spring. Frozen, then melted again- would it f**k the insides up? I'm probably going to have to re-bleed with anti-freeze. If I do it in the bathroom sink, how much antifreeze do I need to put in? Revolver
Erm, it depends on your setup, if there's enough room it won't damage your brake. You use 3:1 water to antifreeze. Bath/sink bleeding with antifreeze is a waste of antifreeze imo.
dann2707
Or just use a washing up bowl then you can pour the antifreeze mixture back into a bottle. It's what I do. But i'm being an oil fag over winter and running RB.

err
maguras use mineral oil, not dot brake fluid. dot will kill your brake, trust me. i've got a dead hs33 in my shed that the previous owner filled with car brake fluid

Revolver
Citroen suspension fluid works, I heard. I can't remember its name of it.
dann2707
Ooh i'd imagine that would be similar to the suspension on my car, hydroelastic fluid? Meant to be just like antifreeze.
Revolver
It's called LHM
winchman
I wouldnt use Antifreeze, its a poison and will strip paint What you need is food grade Glycol, but you also need a anti corrosion addative and a bacteriacide stuff as bacteria will grow in it. To be honest just use oil, brake fluid and hydraulic oil are two totaly different things, I assume the car brake fluid is incompatable with the seals, it usually makes them swell up as it reacts with the rubber type stuff used in them. So should these be filled with water or oil? being new to this I havent a clue, just know about hydraulic systems being an engineer
monkeyseemonkeydo
Discs need to be bled with oil (obviously), the type depends on the brake. Some use mineral oil, some use DOT fluid- neither being compatible with the other (in theory). Magura rim brakes don't suffer from heat build up so you can get away with getting imaginative. Lots of people use water (I ran a Maggy for years with pure water with no problems at all) with various additives because it gives the lever far lighter feel and better response. WD40 also gives a similar result I've heard.
HarrisonV97
ive just orderd some magura royal blood fluid? is it anygoood?
Azarathal
ive just orderd some magura royal blood fluid? is it anygoood? It's overpriced generic mineral oil. You can get 1L of LHM clutch oil (its still mineral) from halfrauds for about £
Ali C
I wouldnt use Antifreeze, its a poison and will strip paint yeah, I hate poisoning my brake, makes me feel really guilty plus I hate it when all the paint inside comes off and clogs the brake up..... .....oh wait?

If it freezes, the water expands and pushes your pads out a bit. It's pretty much no different to pulling your brake, really.
