(my current setup) Big betty tyre (990g) with kenda tube (180g) total: 1170g 2. I went from a rubber queen to a rain king (300g heavier!) and my bike is so much more rideable purely because its more stable I used a standard tube in the rubber queen and only ever got 2 punctures in 2 years of using it. Andeee
Stop faffing about with weight man... Have a shave and go for a dump see what difference that makes? I use a maxxis minionn dual ply with a tesco innertube then i cut a old tube up and wrap it around it to make it more stronger and resistant. Azarathal
Theres 10grams between the setups, I think he's trying to work out whether the heavier tyre or thicker tube would produce the best puncture resistance.

Experiment try it... if he doesn't like it then there is a lot more out on the market.

The tyre wih the thicker sidewalls will be more puncture resistant. Let me tell you this, a shit tyre (DMR moto) with a hench tube (kenda ridiculous 5mm thick job) will pinch so much more than a sick tyre (high roller or swampthing) and a dud tube (I'm using a bontrager middle of the road tube, thinner than a downhill tube) edit: I put that in bold because get that tyre Edited November 17, 2011 by Revolver

Jamie_Trials
I'd go for the thicker tyre, Thin tyres lead to punctures. If you've got something strong on the outside, then there's not much chance of it getting damaged on the inside. If it's strong on the inside and weak on the outside, then the inside will still take some kind of beating.
J.KYDD
I run single ply tyres and standard tubes and ride a lot of natural. Can't say i have an issue with punctures
Laurence--Trials
Okay, i'll keep my current set up. I wasn't really worrying about weight for whoever said that. I ride 90-95% street, so its mainly the sharp edges of walls that make me pinch.
Sam Nichols
Maxxis Hi Roller Dual Ply 24" If a scrawny little dude like you can pinch that I'll eat my hat! If you want to keep the weight down stick a Maxxis Welterweight on and the total weight comes to 1163 which isn't far of your fat albert combo.OR Run your tyres at 50psi
