dann2707
Hey. So basically atm i'm "doing" my bike up so to speak. it's an onza comp mod The bolts in my - • Headset x1 • Stem x6 • Rear hub x2 (Echo TR) • Fronthub x2 (Same bolt as above) Are all slightly rusty, I left my bike in the rain at Tartydays stupidly and forgot about it over night here one time. i'm right in saying all these bolts are M5? They all take a 5mm allen key too, if I were to order a load in from eBay in black, which ones would I need? I'm guessing M5 x 25 (25 would be an ideal length of thread?) But how do i know what size head it is from the listing? Link I'm not wanting a 4mm allen key hole, just 5mm. Anyone have any ideas on which ones to order? Cheers. SamKidney
M6 Bolts mate. M5x25's are the bolts used in your bikes brake mounts M6x25 or M6X30 are the ones you will want to be using in your stem, steerer clamp and bar clamp
dann2707
Oh shit!! I was measuring it wrong Was measuring the inside of the thread and not the outside. Cheers mate!

To be honest I would just take the old ones to an engineers mercahant and they should sell you the correct size for a couple of quid. Have a look at this Make sure they are high tensile though as I have seen a few allen bolts snap as they were poorly made cheap ones.

No worries I always remember it by "If the allen size is 5mm, the thread size is one up" Works for standard bolts only though haha.
dann2707
Ahhaha Just found this listing. 5mm drive head Perfect! these are high tensile steel, and black, should be perfect? Shame it doesn't say whether the threaded size is 25mm or the full length of it is 25mm :/ Edited November 16, 2011 by dann2707
SamKidney
Will definatelly be the threaded length mate. Ive got some down stairs and they measure 25mm from the base of the head to the end of the threaded section.

forteh
Cheers for the replies. Ordered 12 of the high tensile steel ones in black. Wait approximately 3 days for them to start rusting Personally I would have gone with stainless, although A2 stainless (most commonly available) is weaker than 12.9 its still more than strong enough for your application. Only downside with stainless is the heads can chew up easier if you use crap allen keys. Edited November 17, 2011 by forteh
