Ever Get Problems When Out Riding?

I've had many people give me abuse for riding my bike on the promenade, if I ignore it they usually go away but sometimes they persist so I will respond. If I was going to bash on everything I could understand but my tyres are not going to break much.

I really don't know what that's about it's all broken rock's down the prom, when riding the new prom maybe. I must say i don't think the benches are Cap proof...?

So far so good in the time I've been riding only been kicked out of Preston Uni and we knew we wouldn't have long, we were asked to move and peacefully did so. And normally where i ride people stop and watch, even had a family cheering me on... But i don't really ride street that's where i think you get the tosser's.

Comming from a world of offroading in 4x4s its interesting to see this.

We do occasionally get similar responces, some times idiots spoil it by going were they shouldnt. We find being polite and not rising to the bait just winds them up even more, but is the correct way to deal with it., one of the lads has his Jeep fully camered to film routes etc, he has filmed some really good material of people just being abusive, one called the police, he just showed the video back and the bloke was then crapping him self as the police had a nice chat with him and explained rights of way.

The bit we find almost comical is the police and NHS appealed to us all the last two winters to ferry staff about, one of the lads cleared the outside lane on a local motorway as the police have no or very few 4x4s at 15 to the gallon it cost him a few quid, so he asked the coppers who politely said no chance, so one letter to the Chief Constable later, one tank of Petrol, its a two way street and people often forget this.

Just watch out if you are technically a child as people shouldnt approach you, they often forget this can land them in a whole load of trouble.

In Edinburgh people, especially the police, are very tolerant of street sports.

I spend quite of lot of time in front of the Scottish Parliament riding about and get next to no hassle.

The only times I have been asked to move has been when I have been on private property (although some people don't seem to mind too much) or when, rightfully so, there has been too many people walking about so there was a genuine H&S issue.

People on BMX and skateboards don't usually get any hassle either, although I think BMXers get more of a bad rep mainly as they seems to bomb about and have a few near misses.

In response to sam kidney, danchandler, CalopS and dann2707, what a bunch of hand wringing apologists you lot are! theres no wonder you get thrown off places by arse wipe security if you leave straight away when asked head down tail between your legs!!. If im riding something thats practically closed on a Sunday and a jobsworth security guard comes down and starts giving it " come on lads, now its not my decision but...." (and you know what comes next), they could use some discretion, decide its quiet and let it slide, but no, its always turn up with the heavys just for the sake of enforcing. Also if your never allowed to ride there why does it matter if theyve labeled you? u cant ride there! What would they do if 20 of you all just carried on riding ignoring them, start manhandling people? i think not!! theyd leave and call the filth, giuving us a good half our of riding. Also i cant remember any security guards being polite and respectful, more like abrupt and abrasive! get a grip, and if you didnt like it when it had happened, y didnt you come over and say something at the time?? for the exact same reason your bitching about it on a forum and getting turfed off everywere you go, bottleless and spineless losers.

if someone storms up being a fanny I'll normally give hassle back, If they ask us to leave nicely then I'll go.

Yeah, absolute fanny the security guard was being. I'm pretty sure he was waving a machete at us telling us to get off his land !! ....

not confused, enraged by earlier posts, not quite sure what your talking about though.

You do seem confused. You seem to be thinking that Carl and co are "a bunch of hand wringing apologists" and " bottleless and spineless losers" because they thought acting like a tool and wanting to fight security guards was a bad thing.

Normal people tend to have respect for others, if a security guard comes over and is polite to you and asks you to move it's the respectful thing to move on. You seem to think that they have just given you consent to give them abuse and should only move when the police get involved. That's why I think you are confused because that seems to be a pretty childish attitude and you must have meant something else.

On behalf of my attention, not to start anything but can you please shut up for once. You wasn't there so how can your view count? For once can you please keep your fat narrow minded head out of something that you cannot relate to. Thankyou

I never mentioned any names Mark. It was merely a generalization. I wasn't even talking about that specific ride. You'l find it was Andy who brought your name up, not me.

Your theories not correct either.

I for one, see no point in being rude or abusive towards people who ask me to move on. If they do so politely and give a genuine reason as to why I / we should I will. Yes, if they come across a bit harsh and abrupt, Im not going to be too happy in my response, but I certainly wont give shit back, purely because that's not the person I am or want to be seen/ known as.

I dont like to cause trouble. I never have done. You might be right in that they're pretty much powerless, but I do have a sense of respect towards what they're trying to do. Its their job. I've found that as a result in being kind, the next time they catch me, they're more lenient and more than often let me continue as I please so long as I'm considerate towards passers by and not putting anyone at risk of getting hurt.

Get a grip. We're clearly not the only ones "bitching" about the matter on here. You seem to have allot to say for yourself too.

The topics not specific to the rides you have been in. So Ali's more than welcome and has put across a relevant post that I fully agree in.

So " On behalf of my attention, not to start anything but can you please shut up for once."

Classic Andee.

This is a topic discussing the matter of trouble out riding and I'll put my thoughts across weather you like them or not. Pugson did not specify he was talking about an exact incident (or if he did he was very vague), it came across more like that was his opinion on how you should treat security guards out and then calling people I know out for being polite.

I am right to assume that Pugson was the one on that ride that more than one person has mentioned as being a dick?

I love it when you get threatened on tf through PM after been called spineless (Y)

The way I saw it is that they just politly asked us to move on and you kicked off for the fun of it and to look the big man in front of your mates.

It had nothing to do with wanting to ride there more.

Maybe I should have said something at the time but I probably just wanted to enjoy the rest of the day and not start an argument and create an awkwardness to the ride.

It still is beyond me as to why anyone would be violent to a security guard? They are only doing their job, and unless you had permission expressed in the form of written consent, you have no right to stay there! It's their property not yours!

Also i cant remember any security guards being polite and respectful, more like abrupt and abrasive!

Come to Bristol and see how most security guards (if not all) act outside of your own little fantasy world, we have never once been treated aggressively by anyone. On second thoughts, please don't, you'll give trials riders a bad name!

Rant over

James

P.S. Had a huge crowd gathered around as riding by the fountains yesterday, everyone was appreciating the riding, taking pictures and in general being rather supportive of us!
