£400 For A 24, What Will I Get

You'd get an averagely specced bike for that. Zoots, Because/ other Chinese shite, maybe an older Inspired, rear Pro2, probably seen some action and needing some attention to get it up to standard. Top-end stuff seems to be around the 600-700 mark.

For your budget if you buy a complete bike you'll have to compromise somewhere; generally either reasonable parts on a less desirable frame or a decent frame with a questionable build. If you've already got a semi-decent platform to go from then upgrading would probably be your best bet (as then you can be a bit more picky and dial in some personal preferences too), otherwise flog any spares you have and add the extra cash to your budget for something a little tidier (Y)

That'll be top budget. Got about 200 to finish it. Need rear wheel and brakes. Could benefit from bars. Suggstions? Pro 2 rear obviously!

Yeah, Pro 2 on the rear will sort you right out (though Kings do come up cheap on occasion if that's your bag). Something relatively short/high at the front (think Trialtech high rise bars, a few stackers and something like this) should do the job rather nicely.

If this is the first time you've really ridden a 24"/streety bike in general then it'll take a little playing around to get a feel for things and dial in all the personal preferences, so don't worry about pimping it all too much 'til you know what you want for sure - get it usable and go from there (Y)

Brakes are all good, but don't rush to get them on there if the budget can be used elsewhere first - you'll soon pick up a few of the less static trialsy stuff without them which can only really be a good thing
