Luke Dunstan
I'm splashing out on a new phone at the end of the month, and really can't decide between these 2 phones! I'm using a 3GS at the moment, Will I notice a huge difference between that and the 4S? Also, android users how good do you think Ice Cream Sandwich will be? Spec wise these seem to be in the same league. Any thoughts??
AndrewEH1
Right, I'm an Android fan. I'm not about to deny it. I currently have the Samsung Nexus S which is running the most up to date version of Gingerbread. I've had no problems with Android on this or the previous Android handset I've had. Apart from it's ridiculous name Ice Cream Sandwich looks to be the best version of Android yet. I'm thinking of upgrading in the winter. Apple products are good, I am a loyal iPod user, but I personally feel that they are complete bastards when it comes to privacy and stealing Apps from developers when it comes to the iPhone. Whereas Android is completely open. I'm not trying to start the hate, it's just my opinion!
JD™
On the other hand, I'm an iOS advocate and if you want things to just work then it's the way to go. Not a whole lot gets through the app store screening process that's not going to be relatively easy to use and work with other apps. Yes, you'll notice a big difference between the 3GS and 4GS. I would say go try them both out though...
AndrewEH1
If you are wanting to load music on to your phone and are already using iTunes it's probably best to go with iPhone (although with all smart phones it will rape your battery). The music player on the Android is more than sufficient, and there are plenty of Apps that can replace it, but you can't really beat the ease of iTunes/iPhone. Aside the pricetag, having to use iTunes is the WORST thing about iPhones. I got one off a friend for a bit, since I didn't have to pay for it. I only wanted to use it as a phone and a music device. The music player itself was great, but God damn it Apple, haven't you ever noticed the benefits of drag and drop devices?! I hate how it demands that you use it, and iTunes itself leaves more than a little to be desired. I ended up pulling the drivers out of the installer and using Sharepod instead, but that still was a pain (and I couldn't transfer videos). Unless you have a specific reason for using iOS (such as your investment in applications), I'd say Android every time. No experience with that particular handset though. I'm not much of a phone-guy. Edit: I just noticed the "and are already using iTunes" bit, so that is less directed at you and is more a general rant Edited November 14, 2011 by aener

Luke Dunstan
Why not? Out of interest. I take that back, I've just looked into it and it does look really nice. I've struggled to battle it down to these two! I don't really like the look of the interface. It does look like a cracking phone spec wise though. Had a look at a 3D phone in Carphone Warehouse at the weekend, really hurts your eyes. Think HTC have a 3D one coming out?? EDIT: Where did the CP link come from? that wasn't me! MonsieurMonkey
Advertising bots made the CP link I believe. They do it for eBay as well (As hopefully this will suggest.) Anyway, go for HTC, you're using an iPhone right now, so yeah the interface is going to be weird. I can't say I've ever used an iPhone, but the shit I can do with my phone that make my life more convenient in every way, it's unreal. And I can do it however I want to do it. I've never really used an iPhone, but from what I've seen, my phone is better than iPhone. (And my phone is a HTC.)

But surely the Galaxy Nexus being Android also will be able to do the same? and apparently it being Google the updates hit Google phones first?? I had a HTC HD7 before, but that wasn't Android. I think I need to have a play on one.
MonsieurMonkey
They use it completely differently I think, can you get widgets on the Samsung? I dunno, my brother has one but he thinks it's a piece of shit. Basically, everyone I know who has a HTC, think they're awesome, yet everyone who has an iPhone, Blackberry, Samsung, have some complaints. The only thing I don't like about my phone is the camera, it can take awesome photos, but you need to be so steady to get a good photo. Not good for capturing action in photographs. But that's fixed on the Sensation, it just snaps awesome photos.
AndrewEH1
Google phones are unique as they receive updates straight from Google the way Google developers meant it to be. Whereas if you go with another Android phone each phone manufacturer, and even network, decide when to release an update and they often modify it to suit the phone. Edit: Monkey, you can get widgets on the Samsung Google phones, don't know about other Samsung ones. Also I had the HTC Google Nexus and I felt that Samsung was a step in the right direction (although that may have been to do with newer software). MadManMike
I like iPhones, they're good. However as previously said, iTunes is a total software abortion. It is literally the most annoying piece of junk I've ever used. Having had an early iPod, an iPod shuffle and an iPhone 3G I can tell you that it's not just one experience with the software that was bad. It was three devices across 4 or 5 different PC's. Seriously Apple, what's wrong with "Right Click > Send To > G:/" or whatever.

MadManMike
Plus if Apple did say that, they're stupid. LG flip phone: Insert sim card, insert battery, turn on. iPhone: Find irritatingly small sharp object to remove cheap plastic tray, insert sim card, turn on, get stupid message that it must be connected to iTunes (It's a f**king phone Apple, what?!), connect to iTunes, spend another 3 hours trying to get the b*****d thing to recognise the device and get music on it. So in my experience, Apple things don't "just work", they need a shit ton of convincing.

They don't need to be connected to iTunes anymore. Obviously it wasn't the easiest thing in the world, but it certainly wasn't that hard for the majority else not so many people would have them... LukasMcNeal
I'm not tryna be a fanboy either but I've never had a problem with my iPhone. Maybe because I've had an iPod touch before but basically I had a blackberry and and iPod touch I sold both and combined and got an iPhone. My music was all already there and I sync my whole library to my phone in one click? If you don't want it all make a playlist and drag and drop all the shiz in there it isn't hard! And for updates and initially when you get the phone it took me a few minutes? Having a good PC definitely helps though my friends iPhone took years to update/sync on his and seconds on mine. But yeah I'd say iPhone I much prefer it over the blackberry, nokia and sonys I've owned

But yeah I'd say iPhone I much prefer it over the blackberry, nokia and sonys I've owned Must say i think Apple is the way forward. Up until around 8 months ago, i hated Apple and said i would never buy any of there products but after trying someone else's MacBook, it really made sense to get one so i bought a 13" Air. Had not trouble what so ever with it which i know i would have if i bought anything but Apple. At the time i had a HTC Desire HD, yes it was quite a good phone but after about 6 months of use it started to slow down and freeze a lot so i decided to go for an iPhone 4s, best thing i ever did. For me having a Mac, they sync with each other great and are very easy to use together. The quality of the phone is far better than any other phone iv had too. If it was down to me, id choose the 4s, really dont think there is anything that will rival it at the moment.
Luke Dunstan
The Nexus has kind of been released today, and I've still not made my mind up! Anyone have any views on the basics of Android? Facebook? emails etc??
dann2707
It's really easy to use, you can customize anything and everything if you wish to. I use both my gmail and hotmail account and both use Push emails so I get them instantly. That was set up with minimal fuss. You can get custom launchers so if you don't like the standard theme you can download a new one from the market to change the appearance of everything. Oh same with keyboards, if you don't like the standard one, just download another from the market. The Facebook app is sloowwwwwwwww, I just use the browser for it and it's much faster. I've used my GPS (comes with sat navigation as standard) on my phone a few times, absolutely flawless but I use my sat nav as i don't have a cradle for my phone in car. Transferring music is simple as, plug USB in, drag and drop your music into the music directory, none of that synchronising bollocks... Theres also an app you can get from Google which allows you to get ANY app from the market for free. Back to customising, you can change the front screen as to how you like it, loads of widgets for real time updates on Fbook and stuff. But i tend not to use them as I like my phone battery to last a day. Honestly man, Android is so good. Oh and if you "root" it you'll have a ridiculously fast machine like mine. You click the internet app, no visible lag, its up. Taken a few pics to show how it's layed out when rooted. Mate with exactly same phone as me was like wtf why is your different to mine. Shows you in the email app and stuff. Some people don't like how it's layed out. Edited November 17, 2011 by dann2707
