Skoze
I'd be alot more worried about steerer tube snapage than bar snapage As someone running 3 miles of stackers, i'd piss myself laughing if i snapped my steerer. I find it completely unfathomable that anyone could ever do it. Yeah you might have a little more leverage but the fact of the matter is that the large majority is still held perfectly tight inside the headtube. I've known steerers to give, and it's always at the crown race - when do they ever break above the ht?!
CalopS
And also I want to know: is it OK? I had it like that on my Inspired for a while when I had just got it and the only problem was I couldn't get it tight enough to stay still after landing crappy 180's. Was just a pain to have to straiten it up all the time.
FamilyBiker
I find it completely unfathomable that anyone could ever do it. yeah 28.6mm tube from cheapest crmo would have a tensile stregth of around 11 tons, good luck snapping that! The try all Alu forks still snap off at the top of the headset like twigs. The headset design doesn't help but still!

ghostrider88
1180g is waay too heavy and geo is not very modern. TNN forks are way to go, or old aprebic forks if you are lucky enough to have one. Edited December 10, 2012 by ghostrider88
FamilyBiker
tuf guy:400 x 30 tnn:400 x 30 140 grams difference for knowing it wont snap Edited December 10, 2012 by FamilyBiker
dezmtber
The closer the stem is to the top of the headset bearings the less stress there will be in the steerer tube. Loads of stackers like that is sure to cause a lot of leaverage and stress on the steerer tube. But there may possibly be some truth in having some spacers to allow some flex to reduce high stress points. But I don't really know just guessing
Mark W
tuf guy:400 x 30 tnn:400 x 30 140 grams difference for knowing it wont snap I snapped 2 pairs of Tuf Guys and 1 pair of Fall Guys, all on the steerer tube. There are better forks available.

Ali C
I bent and cracked a pair of tuff guys pretty rapidly, as mark said, there are much better forks out there
clerictgm
SOOOOO.. Help me please with my problem: how many stackers I need with trialtech 70-35 stem, trialtech high rise bars and element frame if I 5.97 ft tall (182cm). Now I have 3cm of stackers and it's max that I can set with sawed-off (222mm instead of 235) steerer tube on my inspired forks. Is it ok or more stackers would be better as said in the beginning of this topic? Now I know one thing - with this bars(30mm stackers, bionic riser) bike was like crap. And what about 70-35 stem? Isn't reach too short? Now with onza 100x30 stem my bike looks like: Edited December 11, 2012 by clerictgm

Miss-Higgy
I dunno about all these other conclusions, i will be running so many because after buying the bike, i can't afford a hack saw...
Ali C
my bars are 1020mm off the floor (measured to the center of the bar ends). not sure how many spacers I have, but I can't fit any more without some kind of steerer extender. FamilyBiker
i left my steerer original,my problem is that my frame has only a 100mm headtube,so i took some ally tube with 28,6 inner diameter and cut off a 50mm piece, only way to get into some streety height unfortunately. learned from that, new frame has 120 ht. FamilyBiker
as the dark lord was on tf recently to sell his "inspired 20"protos" i was remembered of the fact i would be able to get something up from the dead,i.e.this topic... :wink2: purchased some blkmrkt badaboom 3" bars the other day from the german company hibike for 9.99 euro(its true!) and thought: what about them, anyone has some opinions?if they suck for streettrials theyre going directly on my old marin ss mtb, just curious. they´ve got 8° back/5° upsweep,76 mm in height. i´m tying to avoid stacker towers with that,so keeping the topic haha Edited February 22, 2013 by FamilyBiker
