2 Questions On A Front Brake Setup.

ok so ive decided to run a hope trial up front.

so far i have a front brake (with braided hose)

a rotor with bolts

a onza sealed disc hub on the way

a standard onza zoot 2010 front wheel.

i have the right length spokes and nipples

just wondering if anyone can work out what lacing pattern i need? i was thinking 2x disc side 3x non disc side??

also im going to run the hose through the stem (i already have the stem setup) so i need to know how to take the hope hose end connector things off to slot it through the stem? anyone know??

Cheers, Carl.

You'd ideally want the most crosses on the disc side. As long as it's 3 cross disc side that's the main thing. If you're using the spokes from your old non-disc wheel then that probably won't work too well.

basically i have a standard onza zoot front wheel, then bought an onza hub ages ago and ordered spokes from you guys at tartys and they turned out to be the same length as the ones i already had anyway, so im guessing its just the spoke pattern that changes.

does 3x disc side and 2x non disc side sound about right? i can probably find out spoke length if needed.

by the way i never fitted the onza disc hub, i ended up lacing it onto my mod wheel.

so i knew i had the right length spokes so i just bought another onza disc hub from you guys to lace into the zoot wheel.

Hope this isnt too confusing...

It was a little (especially the "I didn't fit it, I laced it up" bit :P) - if you're trying to use the spokes from your existing non-disc front wheel then it might be difficult as I think the disc side would work out as being about 2-3mm too long (laced 3x - they wouldn't be close any other way). On the non-disc side if you laced it 3x I think they'd be about 1mm too short which isn't really the end of the world.

oh shite yeah i just re-read that.. by the way i wrote that at midnight and i was tired lol...

"by the way i never fitted the onza disc hub, i ended up lacing it onto my mod wheel.

so i knew i had the right length spokes so i just bought another onza disc hub from you guys to lace into the zoot wheel"

i forgot to mention i have 2 bikes, one 24" echo and 20" neon bow. the 1st onza hub and spokes were originally bought to run a disc on my 24" but i never ended up doing it, the spokes i got with the hub are the same length as the ones i had on the standard wheel anyway.

i ended up lacing the 1st onza hub onto my 20" front wheel.

then i decided to run disc on the 24" so as i already had the spokes i thought i'd just buy an identical onza front disc hub, then lace it onto the 24". i just didnt know what pattern to lace.

But the spokes i got with the 1st onza hub were all the same length and the same length as the ones that were already in the wheel.

by the sounds of it, it looks like 3x disc and 2x non disc is the right way to go.

i doubt a radial pattern would be run on the non disc side on a 24" would it??

I hope this makes better sense.. lol

I've used radial on a non-disc side of a front 24" wheel before, but the main problem you'd have is that those spokes would be worked out for a set spoke pattern so you can't run anything other than what they were intended for. On a 24" wheel like that the difference in spoke length would be 11mm or so from 2x to radial, so it wouldn't work.

ahh i see, so do you think i should try the 3x disc, 2x non disc?

if it turns out to be wrong or the hub isnt centred between the dropouts properly etc ill just send it all in to tartys to have someone who know what they are doing do it haha.

cheers for all your help and patience mark. much appreciated!
