planet x alan
Well For the last month I've been getting back into trials after taking a 3 year break to bmx/mtb. Went for a scout around our local area and came across this place! Looks like an old derelict mine, Apart from the broken glass/empty beer cans/ general chav waste it turned out to be a pretty cool spot. So much more i wanna get done here so watch this space in future. Filmed on the iPhone 4S. Not bad quality i must say but still doesn't come close to my sony. Edited using iMovie on the phone as my pc is ready to blow at any moment and firing up premier would not be the best idea. People who can hook to back wheel. See last clip. What am I doing wrong? I've never really tried them if I'm honest but they look cool as pie so I'd like to be able to send one occasionally. Thanks fellas Alan. AndrewEH1
Nice video, could do with being longer! People who can hook to back wheel. See last clip. What am I doing wrong? I've never really tried them if I'm honest but they look cool as pie so I'd like to be able to send one occasionally. Try leaning further forward so your weight is over the front wheel? You seem to fall backwards because your weight is hanging off the back.
planet x alan
Thanks. Yeah I'll keep at the old hooks. And yeah I plan on making a longer edit, this was more to test the camera on the phone to see if it's worth leaving my proper camera at home. If we get any more decent days this year then I'll probably do a bit more!

If we get any more decent days this year then I'll probably do a bit more! If you can take your proper camera with you. I don't know whether it's the rolling shutter, autofocus or person who was holding the camera but there seemed to be a bit of shaky-ness. I'm sure your proper camera will get rid of two of the possibilities.
planet x alan
to be honest it was probably the sketchy cameraman... Proper camera can sit on a tripod quite nicely so that eliminates that problem!
N.Wood
Regarding hooks... They are HARD. So practise on a wall thats just under vert to get used to timings and stuff. I'd say you need to go faster, make your front wheel only JUST land ontop of the wall (as opposed to clearing it, the bike coming down into contact with the wall, then you trying to spring upwards), lean over the front more and keep practising. greg1040
Hooks = hit the wall hard and fast
planet x alan
Thanks all this is great input. As i said before I've never tried them so I'm a complete hook novice. Thanks a lot. Perhaps this is where I'm going wrong. Would it be a better technique to just pull up rather than pedal upping as i did in the video? N.Wood
If you can bunnyhop pretty good then pulling up is easier (for some) because it doesn;t matter how fast you're going, the front will pull up the same. The faster you go, the harder it is to raise the front with just pedals because you kinda run outta steam and the front doen't come up. Try both and see what works for you
planet x alan
Thanks, yeah I'll experiment and see what comes of it!
Dave Anscombe
roll in to a hook fairly fast lean over the bars and really slam the rear wheel in to the object the momentum then brings the rear wheel up
