Mellish123
I have just had my GU typhoon sent down to me from my parents house, when cleaning it up on close inspection i found a hairline crack near the back magura mount is it something i should be worried about? I have been riding for a couple of years (previous to moving out) and never had any problem with hairline cracks so it's not something i profess to know a lot about. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Dan
N.Wood
Keep an eye on it, if it stays the same size its not a major issue, if it grows everytime you look at it, you'll need a new frame sooner rather than later
Mellish123
Is there any way to solve the issue? What could i do to strengthen it? Dan
N.Wood
A couple of avenues, none of which will be too great... Can drill a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it spreading or can get someone to drop a blob of weld over it. Thats about it... The weld will mess the heat treating of that area of the frame so will weaken it, although if it does start spreading its pretty much a last ditch attempt to get a couple more weeks/months out of it. SamKidney
Whack a booster on there dude. Less flex will mean a lower chance of the hairline crack developing into a bigger crack, that will lead to failure. It wont solve the problem, but it should prolong the inevitable. Mellish123
Cheers for that advice i suppose i shall invest in a new frame. Money well spent all for trials!! anybody agree? Any good 20" frames that stand out at the minute? Dan
Muel
I'd wait to see if it's actually a crack before shelling out on a new frame personally.
SamKidney
If you do decide on a new frame, I'd recommend the Ice 2. £200 on RockNRollbikes.com. Rides lushhhhhhh.
