crispyboy
Can you put them on the bottom, between the frame and then forks ?
monkeyseemonkeydo
Can you put them on the bottom, between the frame and then forks ? Not really. The crown race needs to sit snugly on the steerer which can only happen at the crown of the fork.

Azarathal
Ryan stop being such a fanny, as Revolver said just try it, i'm sure we'd all like to know if works just for future reference.
Revolver
What's with that comment? You want to know if something works... one way to do it is to go outside and try it. Nothing significantly bad is likely to happen - you'll know as you're tightening it up if it's going to break, and you'll know the second you try and turn the bars if the headset will work. Nobody knows how long that setup will work - no-one's done it - so you won't get an answer for that.
err
it might work but it won't work well it'll end up sloppier than the local bikes haddock pasty
Mark W
It won't. The crown of your fork has a little angled edge to it. Your crown race needs to be up against that, otherwise it won't really hold it in place properly when it's tightening up.
Sam Moss
why would you want to do that?

Revolver
Did you try it when you were thinking of ways to raise your fourplay's BB height?
Mark W
Nah, because slackening the head angle was the exact opposite of what I wanted to do (and because I knew it wouldn't work).

thispartisrequired
It don't work well, i knocked me up a similar thing on a real old shitty bike to bodge some forks in, granted it worked but it weren't too great. My method was basically an extension of the head-tube, had I welded the piece of tube to a headset cup it probably would have been a lot better. So maybe a steel headset cup welded to a bit of steel with the right id would be a better solution than some headset spacers
