Shot Blasting

I've given my frame cranks and pedals to someone to be sand blasted however after giving it to them found out it'd be shot blasted (shot blasting is with tiny particals of metal not bits of sand, for those who dont know.) not sand blasted, will this damage the frame cranks or pedals in anyway or is it fine to do like sand blasting? Also how hard will it be to sand down to give a polished finish after?

Hi, I'm very much a newbie to trials - but I paint cars and models etc for a living. It will be very difficult to polish up the surface you'll be left with after shot blasting, or sand blasting, although light shot blasting will be best out of the two. You'd be much better to paint strip it all with a car paint specific chemical stripper. Or possibly even sand it down going down through the grades of paper to a nice fine finish such as P1500 grit. The blasting leaves a pitted surface which is great for priming and painting but terrible to try and polish. A metal polishing company will be able to remove all paints as part of the polishing process, but will probably cost a bit. Hope it helps.
