lizardking
Hi there I am new to trials, basically i want to get a 24'' bike, to do street trials mostly, not too much into bmx or jumps, mostly trials hopping, pedal kicks, etc... I really like the inspired fourplay, but these inspired bikes are the heaviest 24''!! Almost 12kg... For example a cheaper bike like onza zoot, is under 11kg.. Will affect a lot this difference in weight for a beginner to catch up?? or is it worthy paying more than double for a bike that weights 1kg more?? I can afford the inspired fourplay, but it just bothers me its weight!! maybe, im overeacting, any advice?? Cheers!
Mark W
The two bikes are completely different though, in fairness. The Zoot is pretty light because there's basically not much to it. V-Brakes front and rear = not much weight there, a relatively light non-disc front wheel with a narrow rim, narrower front tyre, front freewheel, etc. However, on the Inspired that weight is made up by the fact that it's got dual hydraulic disc, 'better' hubs that do weigh a little more (but should last longer and require less maintenance), and a stronger frame and fork. For example, the Inspired Team forks cost not far off the price of the Zoot frame itself, so that should give you some idea of the difference in quality. That's not to say the Zoot's a bad bike, because for the price it's great. However, the Inspired is the next step above it which is why it costs more. I don't think the weight is really an issue either. It's not quite the same as 'normal' trials where you're doing a lot of static moves - because you're usually rolling more with a 24, it seems like momentum helps you out so having a low bike weight isn't really an issue. I'd personally rather have a slightly heavier bike that's going to last longer (which is the way I set my bike up now). If you're just testing the water then a Zoot would be a safe bet as it's a good bike, and you're not really investing too much into something you might not ultimately be keen on. However, if you're wanting to commit to it then the Inspired would probably be the way to go as it's a better bet long term due to the spec and the frame/fork it's built on. There are a few things I'd personally want to change on the Zoot straight away (e.g. a wider front tyre, different stem and so on), whereas on the Fourplay they seem to feel pretty good straight out of the box. The bar and stem combo compliments the frame really nicely, and other finishing kit like the tyres and pedals are pretty much spot-on.
lizardking
Hi Mark Thanks for your reply.... Yeah i understand is a better bike the inspired, thats for sure, just i was a bit concerned about the weight, since i think it can be a key point when u r trying to catch up.. Actually i could get a second hand inspired fourplay 2010 from a friend( with hope disc on front and hs33 on rear) at 700euros( guess bout 600GBP) that is just a bit more than a new onza zoot. So i guess even heavier the inspired is the way to go.. Cheers! Edu
Matthew62
12 kg isn't heavy. 12kg in comparison to 11kg, well then there's little point even discussing it, it's that irrelevant. Granted if you're comparing it to an 8kg bike then i can see where a difference will become apparent...but how do you honestly think a few grams is going to significantly hold you back? The bike is hardly a tank so i'm really struggeling to understand your concern. You can afford the much better bike that will out-last and out-perform the other, so why even consider the shitter version? For the sake of a few grams? Seem's a really stupid justification when there are always ways of lightening any bike.

WIGAN ??
what id do is start of with a fourplay frame and build yourself a lighter bike by adding your own parts to it, best of both worlds then
