dannytrialskid
Hi, Passed my test on the 13th September with 0 faults Anyway, insurance is a con as you probably know. For new male drivers at the age of 17 it is £3000+! The cheapest I got was £3050. Where should I look for a car? - I can only spend a max of £1000 on the car. I have tried eBay, autotrader, pistonheads, motors.co.uk, exchangeandmart, friday-ad and gumtree. Also looked at local garages (more expensive than private sales) and looked at their part exchange cars. Anyone else I could look? Thanks, Danny. dann2707
eBay is probably your best bet. I found it arguably cheaper through confused.com and adding parents to my policy.

Duncy H
If you are cool enough get a real mini, my insurance is £1200 fully comp in my name and you get the warm feeling of feeling better off than everyone else in their generic cheap plasticmobiles. Anything is going to cost lots of dollar though at your age.

Lmao! Made me chuckle. At leasyt you got warm. Metro's vents are designed to only blow cold, the ones that point at your face. How stupid is that!! Try all sorts of cars, sometimes bigger engined less desirable cars are less to insure than typical small young person's cars. Try 1.4 rover 25? dann2707
Haha think ive seen that as a sticker set you can get. Op, parkers have a really comprehensive guide on cars and what insurance group they fall under. You can browse through the groups individually too. Stay away from group 4 onwards though
Greetings
I know this is going to sound strange, but as someone who annually pays a total of 400 quid to insure a 740i and an M3, I would consider walking as the best solution if somebody quoted me 3 grand for a single car. Or at least public transport. You've been without a car for 17 years now, surely it's worth waiting another year and saving 3000 quid? Which is why at 21, I still ride a shitty little 125 motorbike. £85 a year to insure and it'll keep up with anyone in a 1.0l Micra... An extra £1.5-2k to keep dry? Think I'll buy a waterproof jacket thanks.

Muel
But I would never need to do that, I haven't ridden pedally bikes for nearly 2 years lol. Plus you can't get 5 people, 5 bikes and enough stuff for a few weeks travelling in a Micra. But what about when you need to carry around your mates.... oh wait nevermind. I do regularly, just one at a time.
Matthew_Gibson
I saved £400 with my old lad on! but still paying over a grand! with 3 years no claims, 3 points. it is a 2.6 V6 A4 like!!
Luke Rainbird
Plus you can't get 5 people, 5 bikes and enough stuff for a few weeks travelling in a Micra. I beg to differ... Horses for courses - a bike won't suit everyone (ie people with friends, or a survival instinct...) and nor will a car.
