Azarathal
Heya guys, wanting to paint my hub / rim but im too lazy to delace it. A few of my bmx mates just used to spray the entire wheel but I'd like to keep my white spokes. Saw someone had done it on here a while ago with a tiny paintbrush. What paints would you recommend me use for this task? Hub / rim are going to be matt black so no laquer to paint over.
J.KYDD
Just mask off you're spokes, then spray it
Azarathal
Including the spoke heads? Nipples?
Jamie_Trials
Including the spoke heads? Nipples? If you want them to stay as they are.
Azarathal
Sounds like so much more effort than painting them
J.KYDD
So use a tiny paint brush.
JDâ„¢
Wanna know what takes the least effort? De-lacing, painting, rebuilding. Wanna know what gets the best result? De-lacing, painting, rebuilding. Using a hairdryer and rattlecans I had both my rims and hubs done in a couple of hours. Why would you bother faffing around with masking and risking overspray, or sitting there with a paintbrush?!

Probably becuase he doesnt want to delace his rim, or know how to lace it back up and tru it. Agreed though, it is hell of a lot less hassle. Not a dig to you, obviously, you already understand.

Azarathal
Atm my wheel build is perfectly true, theres no even any up or down. As Sam said I cba with delacing and rebuilding, it's so boring, I'd rather try it the way I've asked for information about.

As Sam said I cba with delacing and rebuilding, it's so boring, I'd rather try it the way I've asked for information about. Do it however you want, but I've tried it all 3 ways and by far the least tedious way de-lacing and rebuilding. If you value how true your wheel is more than how it looks (which I suppose you should!) then just don't paint it. If you want to paint it, do it properly because otherwise you'll just have to do it again because you won't like the look of a shit job... Azarathal
Hmm well I dont mind building to be honest, just f**king hate delacing, especially when my old spoke key was shit and rounded half the nips off. Might just leave the hub for now and do the rim, it's a raw'd Echo Urban 09 I think with a dead ground sidewall, I'll smooth it then tape and spray. Jake.
If you hate building your wheel, then just de-lace it yourself then paint the bits you need. Then send it here. If you don't want to de-lace it either then ask a local bike shop to do it.

I work in one of the only local bikeshops around here and why would you even think of recommending people should pay for work to be done? Labour cost is stupid in most shops. Everyone should learn to do their own work, if they then decide they're too lazy fair enough, throw it in a bike shop, otherwise hey! Money saved.
