Matt Vandart
I want to put a 24t chainring on my zebdi. I have a hope trials hub with 6 gears from 12-17t. I want to put the 24t on to make my bike more ridable if you get me, so I can go places. What I was wondering is can I make a cassette up between 12t and 19t on a six speed hub? If so, where would I put the 2 tooth step ups? 12/13/14/16/17/19? I have no idea Thanks in advance of your esteemed wisdoms.
Revolver
Best thing I think is to get rid of all the gears you don't need. I did it on a fourplay, 22t and then 17t and 12t. Means you can use a 3/32" chain like a z610.
Matt Vandart
How does that work?
Revolver
Cut apart the cassette, extract all the plastic spacers and the two sprockets you need, and put them on. You might need part of a singlespeed kit to get it to fit properly. You need to put the sprockets so they're two shifts apart, if you see what I mean, maybe more, cause the chain is quite thick and it won't fit if you keep them as close as they come on the cassette. Then you hook up your derallieur, wind up the locking screws so it can't go off either edge, and it will work.
Matt Vandart
So on a six speed hub it will go: 12t/spacer/spacer/17t/spacer/spacer/19t ?
Revolver
Yeah. Maybe even three spacers in between each. It takes a bit of experimenting. I've done it though! How come you want both 17 and 19?

How come you want both 17 and 19? was just using 17t as an inbetween for visualisation. Wanna keep all six to be honest. Well if that works then: 12/14/15/16/17/19 Should work then? Revolver
Yeah, skipping two teeth is fine. Just make sure to buy a derallieur with the right size cage, if the gear ratios get too far apart on the same cassette, you need more chain to make it all work. Probably a small sora mech will work though.
