Positive Public Remark :)

Hi all, I was riding in a local park today (Rosehill to any locals), and I was approached by a few people from the council, so naturally I expected it to be an 'Oi, get on yer bike!' But no. They were very positive about trials saying that we trials riders are a great example (wearing helmets, doing something constructive which also keeps us fit and off the Xbox) and asked if I would speak to a few of the lads on the skate park about wearing helmets, and asked for our suggestions as they will be speaking to the Mayor next week. Seems these people were actually taking our suggestions and interests seriously (a lot of people suggested making the skate park a little bigger as it opened a few months ago but instantly took off and for it's tiny size it gets packed almost all day, every day). Nice to get some positive feedback from local officials for a change with regards to trials instead of the 'get off that wall, go and do that somewhere else' that you usually get :)

What good public remarks have you guys had recently? :)

Thats awesome!! I wanna come live where you ride!! All me and my brother get is "do you like destroying things" and people giving us dodgey looks from their cars!! I had an arguement with that "do you like destroying things" fella the other day cos he thought my RUBBER tyres could destroy a CONCRETE wall... dunno what planet he was from!! Strange blokey he was!! :D

To be fair, I hopped onto a wall (shitty limestone) today, fairly smooth, and it chipped the wall. I guess they just don't make them like they used to :P

That's awesome, I didn't realise positive feedback from the public was even possible!

Luckily most people totally ignore me, although I do get a fair bit of interest from young people who've never seen a bike with no seat. The public around here don't seem aware of trials in the slightest.

They seem to be getting a little more aware of trials recently, probably as there are quite a few of us in the area :) Of course you still get the odd 'Someone's nicked yer seat!' :P

Rode at Worthing splash point last weekend, did a 270 off a wall and a couple gave me thumbs up and then said "Nice one dude!". Talk about a massive morale boost haha! :D

Nice (Y)

In taunton we are now allowed to ride the highstreet after 6pm (less pedestrians)

Last 3 times i've been out the local bobbys have come over and had a chat. They can't build us anything, but just appreciating the riding and encouraging comments. Saw one a few days before the Barrow farm national and he'd remembered it was coming up and wished me good luck.

Public perception is definitly changing (Y)

Yup. Last time I rode bradford I was chatting to a PCSO for ages about it. Seemed genuinely interested and wanted to know more about it.

Myself, Tom McMillan and a few other locals had some police walking towards us so we done the usual, off the bikes and start chatting. They said don't stop on our behalf, so us what you can do.

Yeah seems like everywhere has it's local nobheads and local nice guys!

Same with police that pull you over when driving. When I got pulled they were so chatty, asking about the band I had been to see and what sort of music they played haha. But like on police shows some are proper cocks!

The only good remark i've had is from a ruff looking man and woman walking past as i was gapping a beck near where i live.

The man said ''It's good to see young people getting them selves out and about keeping active''

and the woman said ''Yeah, your pretty good at doing them tricks dont ever give up and dont let anyone tell you your not good enough''

Did some riding on some really nice walls in France a few weeks back, and they were all really supportive :) even the police were pretty intrigued by it

British police are as kind as either, "Please move on." or "Here's a fine for damaging public property.". thumbdown.gif

Ive had some people who simply hate the idea of bikes being around even.

Then there are those who made odd remarks or yell stuff, 'Yer seats missing', 'Can you wheelie?', 'do something cool'

There are those that see you do something and kind of wait to see what your doing. Some even come by and ask about it because they have never seen anyone do stuff like this on a bike.

Cops are much the same, you get some that are happy to see youngins doing something besides drugs and partying, then you get those that think your on drugs and riding a bike...

Mixed feedback everywhere. But generally if someone takes the time to see what we do and the complexity of it (Some have even tried out my bike since they say my bike must be rigged). They gain real respect and see we have some talent.

The other day i was just riding home from work but while trying to take a shortcut i got stuck on top of a rock wall down by the seawall, instead of doubling back, i hucked it. it wasnt nearly impressive or anything probably only 6-8 feet high and four feet out. But a pretty large group of people watched me do this. And as i rode by they all just stared at me like i was the next BMX'ing tony hawk...

I always wondered if the public response was geographic: In north wales all you get is complaints and police. In south wales, people are a lot more appreciative

:S

thats because they are all to high to care down swansea
