alex-trials-boy
Hey guys, was looking on chain reaction cycles a sec and saw some stupidly priced parts! Just wondered why they're soooo much and why people would buy them Pedals @ £602!!! Headset @ £189!! Chain @ £178!! Chainset @ £2429!!!!! Stem @ £289!! MonsieurMonkey
They're really high quality, using high calibre materials, for people that either A. Have the money to spend on the sport, or B. Compete at a professional level therefore require the very best?
Revolver
Surely hammerschmidt is more than those cranks? What are sram doing making cranks anyway? Thats why they bought truvativ.

I know exactly where you coming from but don't you think that's a little steep? almost £200 for a headset! Cheap £9 of tarty both do the same job.
MonsieurMonkey
I would never pay that much, but they are clearly better. Even if that £200 headset is only 50% better than the £9 one, it's probably hard to push it to be so much better/lighter/smoother/stronger, so that's where all the money is. Plus all that extra money can be put into research into an even better headset.

Cheap £9 of tarty both do the same job. My Rover has 4 wheels just like an F1 car does, but I think Lewis Hamilton probably wouldn't want to bust out the 220 at the next grand prix.

It'd be awesome if he did though.

Cheap £9 of tarty both do the same job. Actually they don't. The headset pictured can adjust the headtube angle by a few degrees (for use on 1.5" and tapered steerer tubes). Road bike stuff is expensive because: a) more money is in the sport and can be used to research and test products, B ) higher grade materials are used, c) Road cycling is made up of middle aged men with high average incomes who can afford to spend £2000 on a chainset rather than teenagers relying on pocket money which is what trials sell most to. Pretty sure I have seen roady wheels that sell for over £4500 EACH.
F.N.G
Why is the chain £178? what makes it so special?
Kenny--Trials
A. Have the money to spend on the sport, or B. Compete at a professional level therefore require the very best? This will be the case for the new monty frame aswell
Laurence--Trials
That headset... whats the weight alex? Chain is probbally TI
Greetings
Just been looking through some of the more expensive parts on CRC, that's a level of workmanship you just don't get and probably won't get from trials parts
andyb
The Cranks are that much as they have a built in power/cadence sensor. Road stuff is expensive due to the main criteria being that it must be light before all else.

Cheap £9 of tarty both do the same job. That headset is an angle-set headset, it is designed so you can change the angle of your head tube without changing the head tube. JohnyMilton
Surely hammerschmidt is more than those cranks? What are sram doing making cranks anyway? Thats why they bought truvativ. They same sram, and truvitvi branded on them. Sram are trying to make full group sets like what Shimano do, its a marketing thing, but they are still made by truvitvi. Pretty sure I have seen roady wheels that sell for over £4500 EACH. Yeah, American Classic and Fast Forward wheels do wheel set's up to 6000 bucks, it's mad! Skoze
The frame of my timetrial bike cost £5k alone in 1992. Just sayin'. Road cycling is a whole different world when it comes to price, and with good reason.
Jake.
Hey hey, you get what you pay for. I have a fixie track bike that's £550. Had a go on someone else's full carbon one and I could certainly feel the difference. It's a bit like comparing an old onza frame to an Koxx silver sky...
