T-birder
Hi guys, for some reason my crank keeps coming really loose but not actually coming of. I have taken my bike to my local bike shop and they did it up really tight but one week on and it has come loose again. Its only been the left crank (so not the side with the chain and sprocket) and the right ones been fine. Not sure what to do? Any help would be appreciated, as cannot ride with it loose. Thanks
wozz
what attachment is it? square taper or isis? if its square taper id probably say the crank is worn where it attaches to your BB which means it will have a bit of play in it that will slowly be losening it. T-birder
Thanks wozz, that will probably be what's happened. Should I get it changed or just keep tightening it up?
wozz
really it will ned replacing but as someone else told me on here you can try using small pieces of cut up coke(or similar) can to pack out the side that is wearing which could keep it going for a bit longer. i got the same problem at the minute is a nightmare trying to find left 160mm left crank arm on a budget =p
T-birder
Ok thanks, I will try the can thing and if not I will just replace it. Thanks again
bike_dummie
Are your cranks new they may just need bedding in, tighten your cranks up every 30mins for a week if not do what wozz has suggested.
T-birder
No they arent new and dont need bedding in I have tried the 'keep on doing it up method' but hasn't seemed to have worked. thanks alot anyway
skunky_bifta
Some 'loctite' on the bolt might do it. Has worked 4 me before.
Azarathal
I went through 3 brand new left hand square taper cranks before moving to Isis, never destroyed a right hand though, nor have I had it happen to me on anyother bike.
