Joshm1991
Hey Just a quicky this time!! I've always wondered why the majority of trials bikes have disks on the front.. I know the fronts dont usually get used as much as the back would but I still can't see why it would need a disk on the front!! Thanks in advance!! Blake
Allows more modulation than a hs33 or V-brake, which is what a lot of people prefer for doing up to fronts, they also have a high amount of bite and hold!
Laurence--Trials
They're also quiet when getting from A to B, im considering going front disc for this reason.
Gozzer
Disks are just better in general when it actually comes to grabbing and it allows you to 'one finger brake' easily. But most people don't want to put discs on the back in the fear of trashing it on walls etc. since they're quite expensive to replace. crouchy88
Its all a matter of preference. I had a HS33 when i had a 20" onza and it just didn't feel right when doing front wheel moves. Had front disks on both 24" and 26" bikes and never changed back. Like DrStix said it gives you more modulation than other brakes.
SamKidney
After giving them a go, Maguras up front are awesome, however I'm getting fed up of the noise and increased wear rate due to me having to ride to most locations. So Im moving to a Hope Mono Trial this Friday.
Jake.
I actually prefer a Magura on the front but because of the modulation from my front disk, and it being so quiet... It's better for getting around without hurting everyones ears, and I think it's better for riders who like to ride a bit of natural as well as street. justin123
Iv got discs all round and I won't go back much quiet and better breaking , I find with some maggies and rim grinds it vibrates the frame and is off putting esp the noise
Tarquin
I used a V on the front for the first 10 years of riding, and always said it was better than any disc you could throw at me! Of course a few weeks ago I changed to a front disc, and I can happily say I wuoldn't go back. It might not be as light as a V, but it certainly works alot better, and didn't need any setting up! piperfraz
So what are the pros of rear magura, compared to rear disk?
Jamie_Trials
When set up right, They're reliable.Good bite and hold.Doesn't damage wheel with flex. They're less weight. But some of that stuff is personal preference too, some people prefer modulation, prefer a little flex. It's just down to what you want really.
mem405
It depends on your bike too. Most people with Mods will use discs front and back. Most Stock riders use a front disc and a back V-brake or maggie. Discs on the front are helpful for just going from point to point. But on the back of the bike they are simply too easy to ruin by hitting against something. wrecking a $5 chain tensioner is something ruining a $60 disc is something else...
