trialsmax04
Pound a pint = Hangovers! Agree with you on the planter though Rainbird. Always seams to keep everyone entertained for hours though.
Davetrials
Im back down Plymouth on Wednesday, we'll all have to go for drink/ride at some point On the budgeting front, its stupidly cheap down there, can easily have a decent night out on under £20 aslong as you do pre-drinks and are fairly careful about what drinks you buy. Poundabout on a Tuesday is always a good shout aswel, one pound pints for the win! Pffffffft, 20quid, 4 liters of cider £3.60 and ur away, go for 6-8 and ull be f**ked till 12am the nextday. im preety sure u can do freshers with out spending a penny, the chaplency offers free food every day for freshers, and everyone offers free shots, that on top of the beer and burger coupons roundabout offers!

Davetrials
Discover sainsburys basic cider, 1.89 power though the first pint. buy rollies, avoid white ace from best one, its easy to fall for the 3.59 for 22.5 units, but it hurts, avoid luke rainbird and ur sound!
MonsieurMonkey
Turbo Shandy = Half a pint of Carlsberg + half a pint of smirnoff ice + 2-6 shots of vodka. 2 of those and you'll be destroyed. You can buy filthy cheap vodka to put in it as well because you're not tasting it. I think they taste disgusting, but they definitely did the job. I think at one point they were working out at about £2.50 each to make at home.
trialsmax04
LOVE how this has got onto a drinking thread!! Turbo shandy sounds rank, worth a go for a laugh though! Cider absolutly kills me. And its one of the cheapest drinks too. Looks like freshers is about to get messy...

I've had really messy night by having one of them, then just odd drinks through the night, and it only costs about £3 so you can have a good night on a tenner. TrialsGilly
Depends what you can handle, and how much time you have But I usually start off on a couple of beers, then do the 30min bottle of wine challenge. That's all in for less than £4 (if you go for a cheap bottle) bargain.
Captain Scarlet
You'll get the swing of it, sounds really daunting being faced with big numbers across many months and breaking it all down but eventually you'll find that you spend more some weeks, less on others so you might even yourself out that way. I'm lucky due to my parents earning sweet sod all, so I'm eligible for the highest loan and student grant, University of Hertfordshire were also incredibly generous by offering £1000 for their compulsory bursary (this was f**king amazing!) I'm sure if I was a jub with no live and decided to commute, I could have had a stupidly big amount of money in savings from un used uni grants/bursarys, but like every other uni student I decided to go wild and have fun with the money... and somehow I've still managed to put some aside into my savings. RobinJI
I'll be off to Oxford brookes this year and my budget is pretty much the same as yours (£370pm rent, bills and internet included), except I've somehow got want to manage to run a car too . I think I'll be needing to get a job and be cheep on food and socialising! I'll get a ~£400 pay cheque at the end of September, as well as my loans and a bursary from the Uni, plus I've got work lined up for the Christmas and Easter holidays. I'm hoping to move over to the Oxford branch of Halfords (I currently work in the Taunton branch), but I've been pretty slow with applying there as I'm trying to sort a bunch of other stuff before I leave. Max Quinn
When I was saving haaard for travelling I was managing to spend £20 a week (excluding rent), and still go out twice a week, and get bladdered one of those times. I wouldn't recommend that, but just know that you can live on much less then your budgets if you ever need to. My normal budget: £20 a week food £40 a week going out £10 a week records (that's what I wanna spend any excess money on, but put that tenner down for eating out, clothes, cds, etc) £10 a week course expenses Edited September 17, 2011 by Max Quinn
Mark W
The amount I spent varied on time of year. I pretty much ate/drank/did things/went places depending on how much money I had. I was in the very centre of London so everything was f**king expensive, but I used to ride everywhere so spent no money on travelling or anything like that (which helped a lot). I sort of thought about sorting a budget and stuff, but basically it's not really that useful - once you get there you'll get into a rhythm, and you'll find out where you can cut back and where you can afford to spend more. I got into a cool group of friends which meant I didn't need to hang out at the students union and shit which was definitely a bonus. The fact is the majority of students are f**king annoying idiots (that stereotype is there for a reason), and you'll soon find your own group where you fit in. Once you've done that, you can just plan going out around that which makes things easier...
