Azarathal
I know front BB7's are insanely powerful, I'm asking whether the rear is just as good? I know theres extra cable flex but as long as there isnt massive amounts of sponge i'm ok. Looking for answers from people that've used both a BB7 and other comparable rear discs, I don't want people repeating stuff they've heard other people say. Revolver
I've used one occasionally. Mine flexes like shit. My front one doesn't. The rear one is a two-piece caliper jobbie, which apparently is why it flexes so much. So if you have the old single piece one it'll be ok. dann2707
Mine flexes like crazy. I don't have that much confidence in it at all and really really want to go back to HS33 or at least get a hope. Tried a hope on the rear on the exact same bike and components (almost) as mine and it was so, so much better. To be fair it's probably why my riding has dramatically decreased in progression as there is no dedication to gaps n shit. I'm up for swapping back
Matt Vandart
I think your all f**ked in the head, I have 185mm bb7 on my bike and it is snappy and has massive hold. I also have a bike with hopes and the only difference I can see is the feel of the lever being more refined.
Revolver
I might be f**ked in the head, but it doesn't stop a two-part caliper being flexy as shit! It's on 185 too, it's not too bad but you do get the odd unexpected manual out of gaps and such, and the main problem being the lever pulls in infinitely, meaning it digs into my finger and I bleed everywhere. And that's why I <3 my fresh products 04 magura lever blade.

Azarathal
So If I was going to get an old style bb7 caliper, sd7 lever and some oversized gear cable + a stiff inner would it feel solid enough? Kinda dislike hopes and seeing as a front bb7 feels like a maggy I'd like to go dual bb's

Really? Not being cheeky but did you set it exactly as in the instruction thingy? Mine has very little pull before it grabs like a peado in a nursery. Also have you checked the tightness of said bolts? Or is it old and worn? Not takin the piss cos I know you know your shiz just curious. Azarathal
Contemplating the swap then... How much do a pair of monty edition hopes go for nowadays?
forteh
I had a 185 bb7 (old 1 piece caliper) on the rear and it was worthless, bite was reasonably but the hold was non existant, that was using every combination of pad position and lever setup possible; it wasnt capable of holding on the edge of a curb. Now Ive ridden bikes with front bb7s and theyve been unreal, lock on and off like a maggie, but in my experience on the rear was atrocious. This was on stock though, probably a different kettle of fish on mod
Azarathal
Customer with a DJ bike had a rear BB7, more solid than my hope and it had immense bite and hold, think I might get a pair of bb7's and if its shit I'll back to rear maggy.
