Ash-Trials
Ok so i have a really bad freewheel on and have taken it off today (with a lot of brute force it was unrecognisable afterwards!) I try to screw on a new tensile and it spins on really freely until about half way where i am unable to turn it any further by hand. Does this mean i need the threads chasing on the arms? Or do i just need to clean it well with a tooth/wire brush and get a lot of grease on there, and clamp the arm and use a isis tool to get it on? I just dot want to force it on and totally ruin my threads! Thanks in advance
Mikee
Clean it up with a wire brush and a rag, then see if there is any obvious damage to the threads, if not put a good amount of grease on the threads and see if it is any better. If it is still abit stiff you can use the tool to help you get it on. But if there is quite alot of resistance then don't force it and I would get the threads looked at before any irriversable damage is done to the threads. Martin Reynolds
What mike said is spot on. Also, when you clean the threads up and they are slightly iffy, you can use the freewheel to re-workn the threads. Grease the threads and use a freewheel tool to tighten the freewheel 1/2 a turn, then undo it 1/4 a turn and work it on that way
