Joshtp Posted July 26, 2011 Report Share Posted July 26, 2011 I love my maggies... great feel, good power... but I'm a bit skint atm and I've always liked the feel of v's... If I sell my maggies I can afford a full brand new V set up (avid single diggits, fr5 levers...) with a little bash left over... but is it worth it? I've used them before.. but what are the cheapest arms that will really give good performance? What about pads? I presume the standard pads are not leggit? Luke Rainbird Posted July 26, 2011 Report Share Posted July 26, 2011 FR5 levers are ok, but for a couple of quid more you can get the SD7 levers which have the speed dial adjustment which lets you tune the brake a little more. SD5/7 arms are pretty nice and solid, as are some of the Shimano range (though as I've not run those I won't comment on those in case I point you in the wrong direction!). For the front you'll be fine on something a touch cheaper, so perhaps an SD5 front, SD7 rear setup could be the way to go, but again there's only a few quid between the two. Don't forget to get a decent linear cable and lube the brake up well when you stick it on - this makes possibly more difference to the performance than the slight differences in which arms you run and since you'll be getting cables anyway it makes sense to do it right! As for pads, it depends how you ride really - I run and love the standard Rim Wrangler pads on a smooth rim and know of a few other people that run those too, but if you're more of an all-weather natty boy on the most part then a gring and some more trials-specific pads will suit you better. Fortunately there's pretty much the same pad selection available due to the availability of CNC backings - might even have a set knocking about that I could send your way so if it's any use let me know Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

So, maggie to V adaptors - about £20 Lever £13 for a pair of FR5's on CRC (will check out sd7's as they sound good...) arms about £35-40 for the set Cables £10? Pads - standard utill I can get something better. so around £70 approxx. Not really gonna make or lose anything after selling maggies. I need a new booster too, whether I still with maggie or go to vee. What's the verdict people? My Maggies do look pretty sweet as they are the Ltd Ed. Mods dont take too well to vees if your magura has as much hold as your vee then it sounds like your vee wasn't as good as it could be. I only ever found two pads that brought out the best in vees, one being TNN LGV pads, they other was my own Joypad material. I tried fiddling about with it, but it made the brake really heavy. I was using heatsink backing and coust pads. but I only ran it for about 4 months, and wanted to try maggie again!. Ali C Posted July 28, 2011 Report Share Posted July 28, 2011 the thing with vee is, it uses pads in a different way so if it's good on maguras it normally doesn't mean it's good on vees and vice versa, TNN pads being the only exception.
