piperfraz
A few weeks ago my old pedals started giving me problems, so I bought some Trialtech Cage pedals. Since I've got them, I've been getting a lot more pedal slaps, which is getting really annoying! So I was wondering if there were any ways that I could get less pedal slaps (without buying new ones). Cheers
Revolver
Get some grippier shoes. For the record, the shimano AM40 shoes are ridiculously grippy.

J.KYDD
Is it these you've bought? http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/caged_pedals/trialtech_race_vp/c149p10444.html If so Double cage pedals, in my experience offer very little grip indeed. If you whip the inner cage out they seem to grip a little better and also last longer. But yeah, judging from.... Yeh, i'm on Try-all single cages and love em. It always seems the extra cage on the doubles doesn't allow your foot to 'sink' into the pedal properly

Yeah thats them, they're ripping my legs apart every day! To take the inner cage out, do I just undo the pedal pins and it slides out? Or what?
N.Wood
Undo the bolts and the 2 cages will come apart from the body. Sometimes the plastic washer is glued to the inner cage. That will need to be ripped off and slotted in once you've taken the inner cage out.

And how would I stick it in?
N.Wood
If you're that bothered you could find a washer to fit and replace the thickness of the inner cage or do as I used to do before I started to not give a f**k and cut the inner cage to about 1cm square around the hole to use that as a spacer. It works fine without though so I wouldn't bother. Oh and the washers won't need sticking back in, just put the bolt back through as they were and bolt it up, the washer will be held in place. Kieran Morrison
Easiest and cheapest way to stop pedal slaps - keep your feet on the pedals Man up

I actually found it was better on mine to just screw them in without putting another washer/shim in - it meant they had more thread contact so didn't really come loose after that, whereas the double-cage version used to loosen off relatively often. piperfraz
Ended up just taking the inner cage out, putting the spacers inbetween (no glue) and put screws on. Works fine! Cheers
