Joshm1991
Hey Looking to upgrade the standard hubs on my Phase 1.2 and I've found some Halo Spin Doctors that are quite cheap (in comparison to Hope Pro 2 hubs) and I'm wondering if they are any good or if they're cheap for a reason?? Also what are they like to ride with?? Are they any good to use for trials riding?? I imagine they'll have more engagment points than my standard hubs!! EDIT: Also I have found a Bontrager Earl hub for quite cheap too.. Is that a recognised brand and is it any good?? Cheers Joosh Edited July 18, 2011 by Joshm1991
N.Wood
Neither will be much better than your standard hubs. They'll be fine for normal riding but not for trials. Look into a second hand Hope Pro2T if a new one is too expensive. Theres no point buying a Bontrager / Halo hub for, say, £30 then paying £10 for spokes and building it up / paying £10 for it to be built only for it to break a month down the line. Buy a Pro2T as soon as you can, and it'll work out better value as you won;t have to replace it every other ride.
DeVal
id love to have access to your bike shop! my local wants £40 to build a wheel! lol i said can i just borrow your truing stand for an hour then and they said no it would cost them in workshop time so it would still be £40 lol anyways i digres! to the point. yeah you want a pro 2 etc for trials to be honest. im looking to get the new pro 2 t evo soon so if your interested ill sell my pro 2 (2005 model?) to you for £50. still works a treat i just want the upgraded version with more ratchet points. Ali C
the Evo just has different bearings, no more engagement points. The Spin Doctor is ok, but I wouldn't trust it for power moves.
Joshm1991
Ahh righty.. I guess i'll be saving up then!! And the "cheap" ones I found were on eBay!! I'm lucky enough to work at Halfords so I can just use whatever tools I like from the BikeHut!! Plus i get a bit discount but theres hardlys anything good for trials biking!! But yeah DeVal if you are getting the Evo hub, i'll buy the old one off you!! Might not be THIS month but yeah, as soon as you get the new one, give me a shout and i'll have the old one off you!! Do you want my email address?? Thanks Joosh
