JT!
I know this question gets asked a lot, but never seems to get answered. I'm in 2 minds about selling my specialized, or bringing it over here. But I think it's going to be a bitch to sell and I actually rally like it. So does anyone know? Any companies? Links would be great. Is the cost of shipping mostly influenced by weight or size? I know I could go round searching myself, but I know I'll just end up spending hours looking a sites that either don't ship things to the USA and/or don't ship packages that big. Thanks! isitafox
Parcel2go.com is probably your best bet as that covers quotes from all the major couriers though to get a quote you need a pretty accurate weight and parcel size to go off, the smaller you can get the bike the better as international shipping is priced based on size and not weight according to the site. Tomm
I just sent a bike. For reference the normal-looking bike box was 131 x 69 x 26 cm and it weighed 18kg inc my DMR jump bike which isn't particularly light.
isitafox
Well going off those kind of dimensions the cheapest service looks like being economy at around £130-140. I'd sell it JT and buy something from your side of the pond!

Mark W
I just sent a bike. For reference the normal-looking bike box was 131 x 69 x 26 cm and it weighed 18kg inc my DMR jump bike which isn't particularly light. It's usually based on volumetric weight, so your bike could be anything up to around 30-40kg and it still wouldn't really matter too much as the volumetric weight of a box that size would be around 45kg+. They basically just charge you for whichever is higher...

I'd sell it JT and buy something from your side of the pond! Well the problem is, one of the bikes discs is broken, and I'll only have a limited time to sell it. And it's in Whitby which isn't like anybodys going to come pick it up. Also, if I did buy a bike out here I'd have to spend $'s having the brakes switched around. I think what I'll do is take the bike to bits and take as much of it back with me as possible and mail the rest. Could probably take the wheels forks and bars and just send the frame and drive train, might be a great deal cheaper. Just don't want to be lugging a bike though Chicago airport again, nearly killed me, and that was only a mod.

Tomm
If you're coming back and forth, just take the bike in a box on the plane? It'll cost about £20? David, I paid £18 but that was within the UK.
Revolver
You could pick up a bike box from a shop, bung it in there and pad it out and have it shipped in the hold when you fly. You could buy some castors from B and Q and ram them in the bottom when you get there and wheel it around.
