Chain Tension Problems?

So in other words stretches ?

No. The plates will bed into the pins to a certain degree but not much at all.

The rollers wear down increasing the gap the teeth go into. If you take it off the bike and lay it next to an identical chain with the same amount of links it'll be nearly exactly the same length but about 6-10mm "longer" on a bike.

Chains don't "stretch" much at all...

Yes they do, which is why when you take an old chain off the overall chain is longer compared to a newer one. If it was just the 'rollers wearing down' or whatever then the overall chain length wouldn't alter, but it does.

Chains don't "stretch" much at all, what actually happens is the rollers wear down which increases the gap between links making it appear longer when on a bike.

Get a new chain measure it, put it on your bike for a week and ride it, take it off, measure it, it will be longer.

Z610HX is the best imo.

Sheldon Brown talks about the pins being worn down by the rollers and most likely the inner diameter of the rollers too. However, I have never split a chain to find the pin looks like this..

Maybe chains were made from cheese back in his day or he wore out his chains through miles of cycling instead of trials? huh.gif
