Andeee
Different tubing = more money = higher price. Which = higher chance of it braking a few weeks after the 6 month warranty like all deng frames 2008-present
Mark W
EDIT: f**k it, whatever. You're clearly in a qualified position to make that sort of statement, so I can't imagine for one second that you'd be completely wrong.
Greetings
Are they doing a Maggie version ? GEO sounds perfect for me! Just hate rear disc ha. The ones I got in are all 4bolt + disc, checked on Tarty because I found this rather strange and they only have disc only frames. Echo seems to change something in their frames every other week without letting anyone know so it's difficult to keep up with what's going on. Mark W
If I remember rightly you got your stock a while ago, so it could be you had the Mk1.5 or whatever it'd be, whereas all the 'new' new frames are just disc only, as their bikes are disc only and they seem to be making everything easier for themselves as far as bikes are concerned (e.g. SL forks with built-in crown races, frames coming with certain coloured bashplates, etc.). At a guess the future ones will just be disc only.

All the old school stuff always use to get tested and rated in mbuk beforte it was even released. Now days it never seems to happen... Trials manufacturers seem to just focus on the weight rather than strength and fob you off for your money.
Mark W
As I said, you're clearly qualified and have a great deal of background in this. I'm sure what you're saying is totally legit. What I'm not telling you about is the mountain of Pure 2011 frames that have shattered that we've got in the carpark at work. We literally can't fit any more warranty frames in the warehouse.
Greetings
Yeah, false alarm. I could have sworn I unpacked a few 4bolt + disc SL frames the other day. The ones I've checked now are all disc edit: However the MK2 Lites have seen the reintroduction of 4bolt mounts. That's new stock, about a week old. They were missing these mounts shortly after the MK2 was released which must have caused quite a lot of grief from dealers. Annoyingly the MK2 complete bikes also have 4bolt mounts (or the warehouse staff mixed something up again and these frames weren't intended for complete bike builds) Edited July 20, 2011 by Greetings

The new Echo frames have had some serious hammer from numerous people and are coping very well. The newer SL frames are lighter ALTERNATIVES to the standard Lite and Control/ Pure frames. The TR range is brilliant (bar the bars) and the SL range is pretty impressive too in terms of cost/ weight/ strength. Agreed, Deng missed a trick with the 09 Zoo Lynx and Piranha frames, but really thats all I can think of. Echo's products seem to be improving in terms of quality and durability. Im running Echo forks and a rear hub as of the minute. My Try-All forks lasted around 3 months, and these are bombproof, and my TR Hub is brilliant. Half the stuff Im changing on my bike is being replaced with Echo components, purely because of the range of stuff available at brilliant prices. Can't forget Gaz's gu le 09, tobys gu le08, ogres zoo pitbull 07. All three of them frames snapped on the driveside chain stay.

Gotta remember, Ogres Zoo was from 2007. Old in trials terms, Gaz was unlucky, the GU Le09 frames are brilliant, and I cant comment on tobys GU Le08 as I know nothing about them. Driveside stays a bad example too. You see alot of frames cracking or snapping at the chainstay. Lots of force going through that part. Seen a few Neons and seen some speedrace frames in the flesh that have cracked or snapped in that area and no doubt there will be other non deng related frames and components that suffer from the same, if not a higher percentage of failures. Greetings
The old Echo/GU/Czar/Zoo were nothing like the quality you get from "modern" Echo frames. They were riddled with production faults. What I think Echo has done with the so called SL frames is gathered information about the durability and weak points of the standard frames and found areas where they can shed off weight. After all the frames are pretty much identical in every way, it's very clear when you stand them side by side. I really don't know why you're so fussy, there's no law saying you have to buy one of these frames so just don't if you hate them so much?

Trials manufacturers seem to just focus on the weight rather than strength and fob you off for your money. Well that really isnt the case is it? The same frame is available in two options, one cheaper and more durable, the other lighter and slightly more expensive. That's giving the buyer a choice. While strength seems to be the most important factor for you, someone else (a comp rider for example) Would probably be willing to spend a bit more so they don't get fatigued tired as quickly while riding. Generally competitions aren't as harsh on a bike as launching off your local car park roof so while an SL might break quickly in the second scenario, it could last twice as long in the first. This is not even going into rider smoothness and ability. You don't like the SL versions, we get it. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean its a bad product, it's just not suited for you. Like Greetings said, nobody's forcing you to buy one, if anything it's the opposite. You have a choice

Most driveside chainstays and yokes would break, even on the strongest of frames. Chain mashing against the chainstay tubing and yoke weld would wear away enough material over time to weaken that area irreversibly. I don't think any trials frames are invulnerable to this! Well that really isnt the case is it? The same frame is available in two options, one cheaper and more durable, the other lighter and slightly more expensive. That's giving the buyer a choice. I'm not disagreeing with you here Kris, but if going by how butting works for high-end MTB/BMX frames with DB tubing (and also good quality DB spokes) then in theory these new SLs should be a bit more long lasting against 'normal' fatigue? So, so long as the downtube isn't twatted against obstacles (or at least protected by a protector) it shouldn't be any weaker than the non-SL Lite? Just some thoughts Though correct me if I'm wrong! Espicially for the price for everything deng specced. The only thing id change is the pedals to something stronger like some v8's. Now im tempted to blow my summer student loan on a echo 24".
