Yes but putting pictures of me repairing it would be irrelevant and you need to log in to photobucket, sorry i didnt realise.

It should really be called, "The anything to do with motorbikes" thread. We've had discussions about leathers, insurance etc.

Indeed, I believe I got quoted less than half it cost you to insure your bike :P

Which is saying a lot, considering it's £85 for me at the moment.

There are also fairly regular installments from me with things like, "Went past a parked police van at nearly 60 in a 30, am I f**ked?", (calmed down a lot though, I was a bit of a twat when I was 18).

Ah the trappings of being old :(

Perhaps I should just ride around on my old '76 XL125, pay 40 quid a year insurance and save a bomb on petrol :D

And i bet it'd be a lot more reliable than your super-sensitive CCM. :P (Blew up because you used regular unleaded instead of super unleaded didn't it?).

Pretty much :D

That said, its a hell of a lot less sensitive than most 60bhp 650cc singles and the XL blew up twice, first time it shed the cam chain because I was a bit daft and didnt think to top up the oil, second time was 110 miles after the first rebuild, brand new faulty exhaust valve snapped and completely lunched the top end, it hasnt run on the road since :(

Do I take it that you still have the XL then? Just wack a new engine in it, should be able to pick one up for peanuts now. Tried Ellastone Offroad? I've had loads of cheap bits from them over the years.

Its still at my parents, the entire top end is brand new as when the valve let go it lunched just about everything in there :(

Its complete and ready to go, it had starting difficulties at the time so I gave up on it and got the CG out the shed and rode that. Im sure now with several years of tinkering with carbs I would be able to get it running pretty well now :)

I was really tempted to go get it and motard it, not sure its really worth the effort though :D

Hmmm, I'd say not. It would be a laugh, but it would be so much more fun if it had say 25bhp. I reckon my MZ would be all the bike I'd ever need if it had 20-25bhp.

I take my brother on the back a fair bit, it's a right laugh but with 10bhp carrying 13 stone of me and 11 stone of him it just dies when it comes to hills.

I will probably get it for a winter hack eventually, although I have the car for actual transport the OH could use it if she needs to commute (saves firing the hornet up for a 2 minute journey!).

Weve derailed this thread a bit havent we? :$

Sounds like what you really want, is rather than spending £200+ getting the XL to run, is to spend £200 on a solid, reliable, well maintained MZ 125, which is taxed and tested (actually is at the moment for a change). :P

Cheapest insurance you'll ever have, racing exhaust system and 2 stroke powah.

Yeh but the thread should be in Post A Pic of Your Bike anyway, which is constantly derailed. :P

EDIT: Since when has it been called "The Motorbike Thread"? I never even realised.

The XL will run with no additional expenditure apart from perhaps a tenner for a battery, its already got a nice micron full exhaust on there :)
