Revolver
Well, welding aluminium makes it more brittle, so if you weld it the crack will go but it will be more likely to crack again.
mata22
i know that welding will make material weaker, but i hope it would be ok for some time. i wonder if anyone did the same problem and tryed to weld trialtech fork?
N.Wood
Might as well try? Would be like £5 for some matey to lay a line of weld around it and might last you an extra week or so?
mata22
thats what i was wondering...would it be better to leave it as it is ( as this crack is realy small....like 1 cm near weld and it doesnt look like cracking, just line) or to get it welded? i dont have experience with welding forks..... gary-mac
How old are your forks out of interest??
Luke Dunstan
If it were me, knowing that my forks were weakened would completely ruin my confidence in my riding. Either way they are going to be weak. Personally I'd get a pair of cheap second hand forks just to keep you going.
aener
I'd say so. That's where they all crack if they don't go on the 4bolt mounts, so you can't think they might last. Probably worth getting whoever does it to weld a gusset on top as well. Might make it last a little longer.
J.KYDD
When i cracked a set of disc urbans a while ago i put a sticker over it so i couldn't see it and carried on as usual!
Shaun H
If you get it welded, use a small drill bit and drill out each end of the crack to help inhibit its growth. As mentioned welding will make it more brittle so if you can be arsed smooth out the area using higher and higher grades of emery cloth and then polish, may extend the life a little bit longer.
