forteh
After my failed attempts to singlewall a D521 for the front turned a perfectly good rim into a wet noodle I got hold of a dx32 (thanks to eskimo) and set about it bigman fashion in order to shed some weight. The stock rim was 740g. After two evenings with an angle grinder, drill, mini rotabroach, tungsten carbide rotary files and finally needle file I now have a singlewall dx32 with large rectangular cutouts - weight of the rim is 512g! Built it up onto a viz disk hub (thanks to mr rainbird) with some spokes that I had in stock and fortunately were the right length I now have an 858g front disk wheel with a 38mm wide rim - not amazingly light but thats without superlight spokes, nipples and hub so Im pretty pleased. Overall cost of the wheel has been 35 quid all in The wheel is only about 70g heavier than my previous non disk wheel (hope mono with mavic xc717) but the rim is 45% wider so tyre stability is going to be massively improved. Also looking forward to front disk again and being able to ride down hills quietly Its not as neat as bigmans unfortunately but I didnt have access to a milling machine, all of this was done by hand. Matthew_Gibson
top stuff lad. its a real pain in the arse getting it down to single wall. will the strength suffer?
forteh
Taking the inner wall out wasn't too much hassle, took ages though as I didnt want to damage the outer wall. Worst bit was trying to remove the two vertical walls once the inner wall was out; in the end I left about 1mm in there because it was hassle to get it out fully. Invariably it will be much weaker than an unmolested dx32 but for front use out should be ok. I'm not a basher and don't really do big stuff
Matthew_Gibson
just I tried to do the same to my onza dual wall rim and it lasted about 10 mins, before it was pringled. and that was only doing one gap to front. but im sure yours handy work is better than mine

Bigman
Looking good dude, I was trying to figure out how it was ligther than my lightest one, but then noticed that your rim has no eyelets! Dave: I ran a rim that was more drilled out than this one for well over 6 months and it was perfect, such a nice front rim! Adam

How ever top handy work man Looks like a try all hole rim Hope it lasts you a while Must be your basher riding or crap build I dont really do stuff to front and could hardly be described as a big or heavy rider so hopefully it should be ok. Will be taking it easy at first, give the build time to settle in before retrue and tensioning. Its lighter and wider than a tryall h0le Looking good dude, I was trying to figure out how it was ligther than my lightest one, but then noticed that your rim has no eyelets! Dave: I ran a rim that was more drilled out than this one for well over 6 months and it was perfect, such a nice front rim! Adam I did recall you mentioned yours had eyelets, never seen a dx32 with one before though Glad you managed to take more material out with your rims, hopefully should give a touch more strength, probably negligable though The lacing with the random spokes I had in stock worked out at 2x disk side and radial non disk, hope it will be stiff enough, certainly got good tension on there (which is more than could be said when trying to tension the modded d521 noodle!). The dtswiss spoke calculator stated that I would have to lace the non disk side 1x but radial worked out spot on, either the erd or the flange dimenions might be a touch out. Ive not ridden it properly yet, but the front tyre at less than 10psi is more stable than it was before at
