Greetings
I ride without gloves. Don't have problems with blisters but after a longer ride (4 hours say) my hands get sore and red and riding the next day is very unpleasant. To put it short, my muscles regenerate quickly allowing to ride the next day but my hands do not. Usually don't care because I don't ride every day but sometimes we have organized 2 day rides and it's kinda annoying that you have to miss out on half of it. Is there any way one can treat this problem to make the soreness go away more quickly?
TrialsIsHard
not really, wait until your hands harden up.. wearing gloves just makes it worse as your hands sweat, and the skin goes all soft and rubs away. Get some soft foam grips wouldn't go a miss, unless you already have them. I also hear of people dipping their hands in liquid paraffin, like rowers etc. Apparently it gives you brick-layers hands pretty much instantly. But do not do it and blame me if it all goes wrong, I only heard it
Martin Reynolds
My hands are like leather, after years of riding bikes ive never had that problem. Your hands will naturally harden after a certain time of riding. Just give ur hands time to rest inbetween rides, and slowly increase the amount u ride. Hopefully ur hands will toughen up that way
Greetings
I've been riding trials regularily for 10 years That's why I don't have any problems with blisters. But the soreness has been there ever since I've started. Surely you're both right because the body will eventually adapt. I also hear of people dipping their hands in liquid paraffin, Jeez, you can really tell that this forum is full of men I was thinking more along the lines of ointments (NOT copper grease or other lubricants) but I guess that since Hannah Shucksmith has left us there will be no mention of womanly potions on TF. Azarathal
Aquious cream (or however you spell it) is pretty much liquid parafin. It's a moisturiser and a soap in one. Wash hands. Wash them again using this cream, dry your hands, moisturise.

I get most of my callouses from lifting, bikes don't even give me sore hands anymore. Just f**king moisturize and get the best of both. Greetings, figure out how long it takes ur hands to recover. oviously u will want to roughen ur hands up so they'll cope with trials riding, but not get too much pain in the process. the more you get in a routine of riding, rest, riding ect, the more u hands will adapt and cope with it

Ben Swales
You can still have calloiuses and soft hands - in fact, thick, soft skin will hurt less than tough, hardened dry skin. I sometimes get sore hands, usually when I haven't ridden for a while (which unfortunately is more and more these dyas ). I use Climb On Bar when I do; it's a product used by climbers for when they get split or worn fingers, it soothes the pain, moisturises the skin, helps with healing if there is any damage (burst blisters or split callouses, for example) and, at the risk of sounding like a bit of a hippy, is completely natural and chemical free, which can only be a good thing. Might be worth a try? EDIT: Katy's Hand Jam is another, if dubiously named, alternative. Edited June 14, 2011 by Ben Swales
forteh
I moisturise my hands if they start to get dry and sore, got nice soft skin but still got the callouses. Im 32 and skin doesnt recover anywhere near as quick as it used to, Ive only just lost the scabs from a month old shindig! Moisturise your hands, the callouses will stay although they will be softer and more flexible so they wont split at ben stated; the pad of thickened skin is still there stopping you from getting blisters. The worst problems I get with the skin on my hands is that if I havent been riding for a while I can tear up a callous from the skin bed which forms a sort of blister below it, heals pretty quick though and the skin soon hardens enough to stop it happening. Is it muscular or tendon pain aswell as the skin? I used to get really bad tendonitis in my hands from gripping the bars too hard when I rode bmx alot (was at its worst about 12 years ago now), I dont suffer from it too bad in my fingers any more but occasionally get a bad cramp in my left hand. Moisturise, ignore what the kids say! Working on cars and soaking your hands in oil and degreaser also doesnt help for the overall skin condition

aener
Consider switching from foam to rubber/rubber to foam grips maybe? I used to use rubber, then switched to foam. Got used to it, and now any substantial time on rubber grips makes my hands hurt. Edit: different diameters might make a difference. What about your lever position? My hands ache if the brakes lock too far from the bars. As a last resort, bars? Maybe more sweep would ease it off. Kwizera Simon
You can also get a dead skin remover. Which basically a piece of sand paper on a plastic stick. women use them on their feet. They are great for keeping dead skin at bay. that and moisturizing are the way.
