bikeperson45
Me and a lot of others have been trying to work with the town council to get a new skatepark. There have been a few failed attempts but hopefully we can actually get something done this time. It's still early stages with trying to negotiate council involvement with the project, budget and other third party factors. Anyways, please like this facebook page, even if you hide it from your news feed straight away. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Support-Henley-Skatepark/104254816328416 Merci beaucoup Update - We've been making some good progress now with two public meetings and amny with the project group. There is also going to be a trials demo event led by Jack Meek at Henley town centre on the 17th from 11am if anyone wants to make that. bikeperson45
Almost at 400. Oh, this appears to be a bump
bikeperson45
Here's another bump. More works been going on with more research into designs, the site and other typical issues a skatepark brings. Also, there's going to be a demo event in Henley-On-Thames town centre on the 17th of March with Jack Meek and some others. Feel free to sign this petition (you don't even have to give an email) http://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/henleyskatepark and please like the facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/Henleyskatepark Thanks

TomR
Something we found out petitioning for a park was that the authorities are rarely interested in peoples views that aren't rate payers, or their children. It's not their job to provide amenities for surrounding people, so unless it's a paying facility there's no benefit in it for them, all you're saying is "you'll spend £xxx allocated to our residents and its going to get worn out by residents from another area." You might be better off writing to local authorities nearby that have successfully built skateparks and getting them to provide a written statement as to the success and popularity of the park. There does seem to be a genuine shift (or call it a trend) where they are starting to sit up and take notice of something other than football and tennis courts, and it sounds like you're getting on well so good luck with it, it'll happen eventually!
bikeperson45
I agree with you completely there, I'm not saying it's a bad thing but I don't think a petition with someone's name from America is going to be particularly convincing. But still, we're just trying to show them there is a demand and this is sort of another thing on the list to do so. Some random people have been writing to the council so that sort of thing will help to. Thanks for the reply and people that have signed it
eskimo
Maybe if all the riders, skaters etc get together and ride some car parks to annoy supermarkets, shops and council, stuff would happen. But that's probably too much to ask from kids It worked for my area. But that's because we rode a petrol station and supermarket curbs for a few years. Then they realised, there were more than just 10 of us, all hitting it at different times of the day.
