MadManMike
So I got my Kraken, pretty budget at just £379, but I'm happy with it - rode it 4 miles home from the shop and it seems pretty smooth. Reduced from £500 too so quite a bargain really.
MadManMike
On the subject of my new bike above, can anyone suggest a fairly lightweight but comfortable saddle? The standard one is rather slim and hard - kinda like sitting on a railing rather than a seat lol (Oh, fairly cheap if possible, hence my whole bike was £379...) Matthew_Gibson
get some proper biking shorts fella. you'll be supprised how much comfortable it will be, I know you'll look a bit daft, but can pop some baggys over it

I have not run padded shorts for years now. Mike, before buying a new saddle play around with angles and positioning first, even a good saddle will feel uncomfortable if you have not spent time setting it up! Also what you need to realise is its called a saddle for a reason, you are not meant to use it like a seat Sheldon Browns guide to saddles You'll notice that I do call them "saddles," not "seats." There is a reason for this. A "seat" is something you sit on, and is designed to bear essentially your entire weight. Recumbent bicycles have "seats," but conventional upright bicycles have saddles. A saddle is intended to carry some, but not all of your weight. The rest of your weight is mainly carried by your legs, and some by your hands and arms. MadManMike
Thanks, that's a very helpful article - I haven't been riding since November and I jumped straight on with a 4 mile ride on a new bike I'm not at all used to, so perhaps it is just that... I'll have a few more rides and a little adjustment and see how I get on. Now I think about it, my DMR seemed uncomfortable at first!
Tomm
On the subject of my new bike above, can anyone suggest a fairly lightweight but comfortable saddle? SDG Bel Air. I think they're fantastic seats/saddles for the money. Loads of various models / colours / weights but they're all the same shape which seems to suit me. The other one I've tried and liked was a Charge Spoon - a bit wider. They're nice and cheap (£25 ish for a steel-railed one).
davey1991
Going to look at a Carrera Kraken tomorrow the same as Mikes but for a fraction of the price. Edited May 4, 2011 by davey1991
