Shorts and t shirt matey, shin guards do come in handy but I'm sure you'll manage without! Sadly this weekend is the only round of the british cup I won't be able to make, what route are you trying??

cheers

I'm doing novice (quite embarrased bout it because i kept being told to do inter :$ ), im only doing it because its my first comp and i dont really know what the sections look like s dont know what to expect

I wouldn't worry about that, I've been doing Inter and coming 2nd from bottom everytime. And when I'm the oldest there and all the riders in my class are generally aged 7-14ish it looks a bit dodgy but it's a great laugh!

I'll be doing the next one up from now on though (think it's expert??) after a great man said he'd rather come in last place with some lads near his age than get schooled by a load of youngsters, plus I'm riding the inter route all wrong so think I may stand a slightly better chance up a class!

Remember that the route your on is all about getting over stuff using the bashplate so don't try being fancy and hopping about the place as you usually end up completely bailing, thats where I go wrong!!

Or you can try doing it 'properly' which will set you up better for riding classes higher up, not to mention make your riding look and feel infinitely better whilst not destroying your parts.

Just sayin'.

Haha, nah, it's a fair comment. My first comp I rode inter. Did my first section in 17secs 'cos I was shitting it and just went flat-out at everything. That was pretty much my mantra for that comp, trying to basically go to wheels up everything at about Mach 10. I got 4th behind some proper comp kids, full-on "go to front pedal, go to bash, get up to wheels" action. It'll win you comps, but I'd rather be happy with how I rode rather than constantly playing it safe... I guess it depends on your motives for riding them though.

All I meant is when I've been doing sections on inter I've found the younger riders who nearly all ride mods are getting over rocks on there bashplates. With me on a stock just generally thinking like I'm some kind of superstar I look at a section and overthink how to go about it rather than doing it nice and simple.

One section at Brimham rocks a few months ago was a good eye opener for me, I did a section and went at a couple of rocks down a banking by getting my front wheel up, transferring then backhopping down and ended up dropping a few easy marks. Later on when I went back to do it again I watched a lad do the same section simply by putting his front up then hopping it to his bash and straight over as his front wheel touched the floor quite easily when he sat it on the bash but when I originally walked the section I thought it wouldn't so attempted something when I needn't have bothered.

Suppose a better bit of advice would be to not overthink everything and make stuff more difficult than it needs to be!

And I'm the same, even though I usually come near the bottom of the table I like to think that the sections I did clean I rode well, and the ones I dropped marks on will teach me what not to do next time. At 28 I'm never gonna be up at the top so it's only for fun anyhow!
