T'owd Man
Firstly, as is customary on a first post, Hello to all you good folks out there. I am a mountain biker who felt slightly over biked taking my 6 and 6 MTB down the park with my kids (I'm 37!)so a week later and £50 lighter thanks to Ebay I was the owner of an Onza T pro with worn out tires and a creaking BB. Anyways, I have managed to work out how to rear wheel hop (kinda) and even have a bit of directional control but I am struggling to work out how to do a larger forward leap. I know I have to let the front drop and then do something with the pedals and the brakes and then I suspect something else but I am not sure what order things are meant to happen in. Please help. Next up will be pivot turns on both front and rear wheels.......... Thanks
AlexxRogers
Check out Trash Zen! As for hopping forwards, this is what I do. Get onto rear wheel, get comfortable, apply slight pressure on your forward foot, release your brake whilst kicking down hard on your front foot, re apply your brake, then push your back end out forwards. The rest comes with practice as your technique develops! Alex.
Sam T
Hey, welcome to the Forum! There are many more important things to learn before Rear wheels hops and Pedal Kicks. Practising trackstanding as seen here by Ryan Leech: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=KJ4oIchtkts Once you feel you have mastered your balance point and want to go bigger and better, practise things like: http://www.youtube.c...feature=related And.. http://www.youtube.c...feature=related And.. http://www.youtube.c...feature=related These videos are very helpful when learning and hopefully they can help you! Dont get fustrated and always wear a helmet. Good Luck. Edited June 2, 2011 by Sam T

T'owd Man
Cheers guys. Like Trash Zen. Lots of good stuff there. My track stands are OK (for a mountain biker!). I am too old to become even a half decent trials rider if for no other reason I don't have enough time to practice. If I can pick up a couple of tricks to make my kids think I am a bit rad then great (they are 5 and 7 but not easily impressed) but more importantly any trials skills I can take to mountain biking would be a real bonus - think Chris Akrigg but nowhere near as good! http://www.chrisakrigg.com/my-videos/ A hill in Spain is mint. If I can pick up a couple of tricks to make my kids think I am a bit rad then great (they are 5 and 7 but not easily impressed) Yeah, I am the same boat, was into trials way back, then met my missus, had kids and have now decided to try to take up where I left off, and failing The only comment I have had from my 6 and 8 year olds was when I went over the bar and face planted on the lawn. "Did you mean to do that daddy?" my little lad pipes up LOL Yeah, I fully intended to graze on the grass, and at the same time rip the muscle from my rib cage! Just starting to recover now, I am sure it didnt use to hurt so much when I was younger..............

We should definitely have a meet somewhere with people on the forum who used to ride in the good old days but are now late 20's plus, wife and kids, crap at trials and constantly in pain! Kwizera Simon
Get really comfortable with small movements first. Learn to balance well. Then start by doing little manuals whilst balancing on the back wheel. Keep practicing, it will come. don't try to go too big straight off. I ended up on my arse a lot like that.
