Fort William 2011

Recommended Posts

It’s almost that time of the year again when the English head north to sunny (?) Scotland for the annual two dayer at Fort William. This annual event is easily one of the highlights of the UK trials calendar; the British Trials Championship, the second round of the British Trials Cup and, new for this year, the fourth round of the Scottish Trials Cup, will be run alongside the UCI Downhill and 4X World Cup. This festival of mountain biking is THE event of the season in the UK, with MTB stars from all over the world coming to compete on some of the most challenging terrain that the UK has to offer. In addition to this, eight challenging and interesting trials sections will be set out in the main arena and along the wooded river and hillside and trials riders from all over the UK and abroad will descend on the Nevis Range to pit themselves against each other and the terrain. The ever-popular Fort William sections feature a mix of man-made and natural obstacles (logs, concrete pipes, imported rocks, muddy banks and a rocky stream bed), with plenty of huge gaps, daunting drops and tricky, technical passages made all the more difficult by the summer heat and clouds of midges and all of this in front of crowds of spectators, often three deep around the sections!

Are you ready?

If you’re looking for something different, with loads of atmosphere, loads of spectators cheering you on, and a great range of riding obstacles, then make sure you don’t miss the 4th and 5th June in the World Cup Village at the Nevis Range, Fort William.

Entries have been open on the Biketrial Federation website for some time now; the strict deadline for entries is Monday 30th May, so please make sure that you get your entries in soon so that the organisers can arrange all the free passes and everything else that needs to be done in advance of this prestigious event, as well as travelling up to Fort William to set up the sections - don’t miss out!

The entry fee for each day is £20, or £30 for both days and you can either download the entry form from the Nationals page and send it by mail with a cheque, or you can pay and enter on-line from the Events page. You can also contact Ben Swales at membership@biketrialuk.co.uk for more information on the event and how to enter. Accommodation also tends to get booked up quickly, so act fast and keep a look out for any spare rooms!

Although these are British national events, international riders are more than welcome to come and compete; they can take the medals on the day, but Cup points will go to the highest ranked British riders.

Well back around 10am after a pizza stop at Calendar. What a brilliant weekend and the sun did shine. Thanks to Barbara, Fred and the rest of the officials and observers for a really well run event. My two had a great time. Thanks to the Scottish club riders and our two adopted English riders for making the Scottish event on the Saturday a worth while addition I hope. It was great to meet everyone we did and we shall see you all next weekend at Brimham. Hope you all had a safe drive home.

Another fantastic weekend at the Bill! Thanks to everyone who helped out, made the trip to take part and to our special guest awards presenters Joe Poyser (onza.com), Mike Singleton (phatworks.co.uk) and Martyn Ashton (bikeridersunited.com). Congratulations to all of the medal winners, especially Ben Savage who won his 16th British title on Saturday! Well done to everyone else who rode, it was a tough trial!

Kevin - the Scottish round was a very worthwhile addition, thanks for all your help! It was great to see so many Scottish riders there again!

I've got your name writen on my to do list for today but can't for the life of me remember why - any ideas?

Haha - old but wily! If I remember, I'll let you know asap! Let's discuss the website at the weekend, same for the team. I have a feeling it was something else entirely though... oh well!

Cheers mate! It was a brilliant weekend as usual. It takes a lot of work, but it's always worth it! Glad you all enjoyed it too!

That stem should be in the post by the way - thanks again! (Y)

(I sent it through our work's post, but we moved offices so it might have been delayed a bit, sorry if it has)

Good to meet you at last, sorry I had to run off - was under a bit of pressure to catch Steve Peat at the right time...
