Azarathal
Heya guys, freewheel s'ploded on Sunday, got my Echo SL today and after soaking the stuck freewheel over night in GT (Trying to permeate the threads) and having a 2ft extender bar + vice combo it refuses to budge. Just spent the last of my money on the freewheel and a new(ish) frame so I can't afford a new crank and I especially don't want a pair of good condition trialtech cranks + bashring go to waste. Any help?
Greetings
I wouldn't assume it's stuck if you're using a 2ft extension to undo it. Try 4ft.

CalopS
What freewheel is it your trying to get off?
Azarathal
I wouldn't assume it's stuck if you're using a 2ft extension to undo it. Try 4ft. No idea where I'm going to get a 4ft pole wide enough but thanks anyway. Vice & Mallet, job done. 2ft extension with some hench bloke trying to shock the freewheel off is going to be better than a mallet. What freewheel is it your trying to get off? Tensile96. The internals completely destroyed themselves and the lockring is stuck on as well.
dirt jumper jake
Lol had the same situation on sunday, had to use a 4ft bit of tube and a lump hammer to get the sprocket off, even then it ruined the crank threads Only way is perciverience (Yes i cant spell that word )
dann2707
We had alot of trouble remove my Tensile, even at the Universitys workshop which had access to lots of tools. We ended up removing as mujch as the old freewheel as we could, which reveals 4 little flanges. we then had to shove that in a lathe (on low gearing) for grip - normal vice kept slipping. This evntually gave way edit: lots of we's ^ lol Edited May 24, 2011 by dann2707

murph82
Alright guys I'll try find an even bigger extension bar. Shame theres no way to use my 6ft barbell Try a short scaffold bar,the type used on the ends of each lift as a handrail? I know it means finding a nice scaffolder who'll lend a bar but that's the sort of think that will work. Are you putting the crank in the vice or the bb tool? Are you bolting the tool on through the spline so it cant slip?
Azarathal
Crank in a vice and bolted on, I'll try find a massive pole... and see if he has some scaffolding
Luke Dunstan
2ft extension with some hench bloke trying to shock the freewheel off is going to be better than a mallet. Works for me.
Canardweb
Works for me. How?
dirt jumper jake
How? Random guess... but probably the leverage+Weight combo
Luke Dunstan
Freewheel tool bolted through the crank to keep it steady, in the vice, and then a couple of smacks and it's loose. Keep in mind I'm over 14 stone so my freewheels work their way on pretty tight.
Azarathal
Didn't take much effort then...
